Valve cover gaskets question

I have a set of OE orange painted, stamped steel valve covers that was leaking oil. I purchased a set of Felpro gaskets but first I need some advice. I don't really care for only having 4 bolts per cover and the valve cover ends have a lot of area having no hold-down force. I don't plan on ever taking these covers off again so can I put some sort of sealant around the gasket side sealing to the head? Perhaps some thin uniform coat on the cover, then gasket, then another thin uniform coat and torque to spec?
So, if it is recommended, what specific type sealant and what torque?

You never cease to amaze me! I'm ordering Super Seal gasket for the vette in my avatar but on the other hand for this car right now I really should use the gaskets that are in hand and the question of sealant use or not.
