Im inclined to say its my or your first elk because it tends to get you obsessed with elk hunting, but in my case I think it was one my friend Ron got after several years of hard hunting, Id killed several elk by that season, and loved getting out in the mountains and my friend had been hunting with me during those years and I wanted him to be successful, as he was getting very discouraged, when he finely got a chance to shoot an elk he was so excited he could barely talk, Ron had almost instantly fired all 4 shots from his 358 BLR, at the elk that was kicked up, at only about 30 yards in heavy timber,as we were still hunting ,the elk was only hit once in that barrage and dropped within a few yards of being hit,as the 250 speer bullet punched in one side and out the other at an angle from near the last rib on the near side to exit near the neck,on the far side ,destroying both lungs, but my friend Ron became instantly addicted and that enthusiasm had a very noticeable effect on everyone in our groups attitude for years. the elk was only an average 4 point but it was so much more impressive to my friend than the average white tail deer he was familiar with you would think it was a new world record.
