Which Intake?

For a SBC 350, 4 speed and headers, what intake will work best for low to mid power bands running a well tuned Qjet?

Why is everything only for square bore aftermarket carburetors? Isn’t there any spread bore Aluminum manifolds that fit under a stock hood and works well with QJets?

I dont know the climate where chromebumpers live, the air-gap intakes may work fine i Florida, but in Sweden you for sure need a real big acc pump shot not to have a bogging problem, sometimes none could be enough, i have had one for maybe 8 years, summer car only, and il think twice befor buying one again. For a high stall street/drag race car i would buy one, and they do work real well.

I found this site. They are all about the Edelbrock line. Most look to be low rise but they say it won’t fit under stock hoods.
When the describe an intake as squarebore/spread bore does that mean an adapter plate is required?

yeah, its true, here in fla. "winter" generally lasts 48-72 hours,
where the temperatures drop into the low or mid 30F-36F ranges,
thats in the 1C-3C range)
I only remember it snowing here once in the last 40 years,
and the snow melted when it hit the ground even then
the vast majority of the time where I live in lower palm beach,
FLA, its in the 70F- up into the low 90F range about 300-330 days out of the year,
anytime temps drop into the lower 60f- down into the higher 40F range ,
many of the locals panic,
its comical watching the natives panic on the rare occasions
most people don't have a fireplace or heater, so they turn on ovens and leave the door open,
on the rare times, when you really need to use an insulated vest or a insulated jacket to be comfortable.
luckily because I hunt out of state on occasion,
I own a few down vests, lined flannel shirts and a couple parkas

cooler air temps tend to boost power but it requires the fuel be vaporized efficiently, to produce power,
and that generally requires the engine already be up to operational temps with oil temps at least in the 190F or higher ranges

I never knew changing to a slightly better street intake would screw up the action of the power valve?

LOL! When I use to go to FL in the winter I got off the plane wearing a T shirt while the natives would wear coats and give me dirty looks!

For some reason we seem to be in an isolated pocket here. We normally Don’t have bad weather until late January. Until then daytime temps are in the high 40’s to the low 50’s, nights are typically dipping down to the high 20’s. Fifty miles north or east of us is typically 10 degrees colder.

its not the power valve, its the engines need for a marginally richer FUEL/AIR ratio,
and the lack of intake manifold plenum heat needed to efficiently, and to rapidly vaporize fuel, which if you use E85 is even worse

For a Corvette, right?
There is only one intake that I know of that should work - Weiand #8000.

I like that one, I hope you don’t mind me asking 50 questions, it just that I always draw the luck of getting the “I’m new here” guy and when I ask them questions I get generic or misleading information.

Are these “Plug and play” is there anything that won’t connect up directly like the divorced choke control? The surest gasket set? Will I need to match the ports of either the block of the manifold as I’m working with an original 1971 350 with a precision tuned Quadrajet. Do I need a spacer? That’s 4 questions.

Thanks for taking the time to help with this

I need a picture of your divorced choke. This will severely limit your choices of intakes.

Any time you replace a factory stock part with an aftermarket part, there is ALWAYS going to be some differences.
But I understand that you don't want to have to reconfigure everything else because you wanted to change one part.

The 2 Weiand manifolds pictured below will both mount your Quadrajet with no adapters or spacers and should fit under your hood.
The 8004 (left) is the non-emission version and will be the closest to stock.
The 8000 (right) is the emissions-compliant version and might be less plug-and-play.
Notice on both that the thermostat locations are shifted towards the #1 cylinder, stock is centered.
The 8000 has provisions for EGR and take notice the choke well. Notice that the runners are much wider than the 8004.
This is how Weiand created a higher flowing (larger ports) manifold without increasing the height.
I call this manifold a "baby STEALTH" (8016 shown below) and is a really kick-a$$ intake, like the STEALTH, but the STEALTH will not fit under your hood and is square flange.
Notice the carb mounting holes on the 8000. The inner 4 (quadrajet) are shifted rearward about 1/4". If you are using the large cap HEI and a large diameter (stock) air cleaner, this might shove the air cleaner's base right up against the plug wires at the distributor cap.

With minor differences Edelbrock has their equivalents of these manifolds -
8004 = original 2101 Performer
8000 = 3701
Weiand's new(er) version is called the Street Warrior # 8125, and is the equivalent of the Edelbrock Performer EPS.
The 8016 STEALTH = Edelbrock Performer RPM.

Of course Summit and Jegs (and many knockoffs) have their own versions of these intakes.

I don't think you can find anyone selling these NEW - most likely an ebay purchase.
You don't have to do any port matching - unless you really want to.
Gaskets - I like Felpro or for stock style I like Victor-Reinz.

You said Corvette, headers, and precision-tuned Quadrajet. So I take that as meaning PERFORMANCE. With that in mind, I would recommend the 8000.
I have all of these Weiand intakes, so if you need any measurements, just ask.
Good luck Rich.

Look under the air cleaner, the small steel box.

Large cap as in those HEI caps? The one in this Pontiac motor is the small or non HEI cap - correct? I doubt the chrome shielding fits over the large caps.
