Wipers on a C3

I was going to put this under "rotating assemblies" lOL.

I wanted to clean-up the pit under the cowl grill on my 72 (I never opened up this area before). Never operated the wipers so therefore never knew if the system even works. Several screw stripped out but I did remove the grill. I had to pry the armature at right and left ends to get the wiper cover to move open (are they always this hard to move?). I found the wiper blades shot and must be replaced, but I noticed they are the old - most likely the original wipers as they had a straight blade and no tension bridge. Can modern wipers refills fit? How do they attach to the arm - that looks different too. My service manual doesn't address how to remove wiper arms/blades. What is commonly done, use OEM or adapt somehow to modern replacements (and how?).

Hard to believe you have never tried the wipers before......man you must be hard-up for vehicles to drive! :)

If anyone provides the complete wiper blade arm, then you should be just fine. If you want just the rubber replacement, then that is going to be much harder to find possible.

But without a doubt, Grumpy will know what you need!

Come on now, REALLY you have never tried the wipers before??? PICTURES WOULD BE EXTRAORDINARILY NICE! :p

Types of wiper blades

There are many different types of wiper blades to fit any requirement and budget. Your GM Goodwrench dealer carries a wide variety of wiper blades from good "All-Season Blades" to the ultimate "Beam Blade" or specialty "Winter Blades". Generally speaking, the better the blade, the better the performance and the longer the life.

Choose the ones that are right for you and visit your local GM Goodwrench dealer for purchase and installation.
All-Season Wiper Blades

Good replacement standard blades for occasional drivers who are value conscious

Aerodynamic design helps reduce wind lift
Pre-installed universal adapter fits most wiper arms directly and makes installation easy

Performance Wiper Blades

Better option for most drivers
High strength steel blade with easy fit assembly for quick installation
Has corrosion-resistant epoxy coatings designed to resist rusting, chipping or bending

Beam Wiper Blades

The best option for all types of drivers. The following design characteristics make the beam blade the ultimate wiper blade:

Innovative curved, frameless blade design helps conform to the shape of your windshield
Multiple pressure points provide constant pressure for a uniform wipe
Aerodynamic, low profile for improved visibility and wind-lift resistance
Helps resist snow and ice build-up for exceptional all-weather performance
Preassembled adapter fits the most popular arm styles
Natural and synthetic blended rubber compound enhances wiping performance and durability
Coverage for most vehicles on the road today

Winter Wiper Blades

Similar to the "Beam Blade", this specialty blade includes the following characteristics:

Rubber boot helps prevent snow and ice build-up
Riveted steel superstructure for strength and durability
Design allows for low connection point for hook arms and wipe stability for all wiper arm types

It was just one of many things I missed, I just never thought about it and the 71/72 are the first dual action wiper setups I've ever owned. Now that I'm working against time to get this vette sold while the buying season is still good I' running into more problems. I don't what you can see from photos?

Thanks Paul. Many of the links are too old and are there to open any more.

I need to know what size arm to get and will the new types of wipers fit because the wipers do sit higher from the bridgework.
