yard sale scores

example
today I took the wife out for breakfast
came home did a brake job on a neighbors car,
mowed the 5 acres, and I now have a refrigerator to repair.
I'm cooling off, typing on the website,
and if time allows a garbage disposal to replace,
thats intermittent, (its not the electric its the disposal)
we picked up , a replacement on the way home from breakfast
but hey the wife says all I do is (GUY THINGS)

always stop and look over any yard sale,
"especially yard sales that say...MOVING SALES"
I got a call from a buddy, seems he stopped at one,
and asked if the woman might have any tools or car parts?
this older lady had sold the house and was moving in with her daughter as he husband had recently passed.
on hearing he was interested in "car parts.. she led him out to a garage, and pointed to 2 BBC engines sitting under clear plastic,
she asked him what he would offer for those?
they looked to be stock, 454 engines, he said what are you thinking?
she said, "if you get them out today, you can have them both for $200"
needless to say, a rapid trip to get an engine crane and $200 in cash,
and his pick-up truck resulted in him calling me to gloat a bit later

minor score today, on the way home from a "honey-do trip"
found a drop light and two 12 ga 50 foot long electrical extension drop cords for $20 total,
certainly not a great deal but semi reasonable so I picked them up...
its hard to have too many 50 ft extension cords in any shop

You're going to need lots of extension cords so the neighbor can connect up to your generator
after the next hurricane!:)

I have to mentally reconcile myself,
I,m seldom at the correct time and place with a full wallet:rolleyes::(
I got a call from a guy I know from high school
(back in the days with dinosaurs according to my grand kids)
he wanted to rub in the fact he purchased about $3000 worth of tools and a large
matco tool box, for $900 cash from some guys widow that was moving out of state...
both people were very pleased with the transaction

yeah, your right of course, and I wish him the best of luck, on that probably once in a life time bargain,
yet I'm always out there looking for bargains, and inevitably, the very best ones always seem to be located ,
when I'm near flat busted, now thats hardly surprising in that is probably 80% of the time ,
and I'm hardly able to spend much time looking for bargains.
still the rare bargains are out there,so it pays to be alert and keep looking.

IT figures, as usual
I just got through paying a bunch of yearly web site expenses $479
so I have zero spare cash.

, and one of my friends calls to tell me about a great deal he got,
at a local weekend yard sale from some old guy who is moving out of state,
a 100 lb anvil and an 8" bench vise he swears weights nearly 80 lbs
he got both for $125

If you are not regularly stopping to browse your local yard sales you're potentially losing out on deals!
one of my neighbors picked up a lightly used engine stand to $55,
he got a set of new chrome BBF (429)valve covers for $20 still in the box.
(he does not even own a ford 385 series BBF engine, but at the price he grabbed them)
and ( made $20 bucks more than he paid, for them, selling for $40,
from the first ford guy he called in the local muscle car club)
he got a working brand name fluke multi meter for $10.
he got a set 4 of 6 ton jack stands for $12 each
and several dozen 1/2" drive , mixed brands, craftsman, snap-on, and some non-brand name sockets for $1 each
the guy wanted more for the brand name sockets but he told them he would buy all he offered at a package deal of $1 each

keep looking you might be amazed if you visit a few yard sales every time you can,
yeah 90% of the stuff is CRAP, but theres a few rare gems/bargains to be had.
don,t just look around, ASK if they have tools and auto or hunting/fishing related stuff for sale
its not unusual to have some old lady lead you to a pile of stuff in a back garage that she thinks is too heavy to move or of no value,
like a few tools or engine parts she thinks has no value.
