if there's any money to be scammed from the un-aware , there's surely someone out there,
ready to take their cash in a heartbeat selling crap quality goods.
unless you deal DIRECTLY with the name brand vendor, or in some cases even some larger parts houses
you take a chance on getting crap quality components
keep in mind a single bolt, stud, or valve spring failure will trash your engine into scrap.
I learned that long ago,+ anything priced significantly lower than the brand name parts,
is generally made significantly cheaper from crap materials
that generally results in crap materials and/or shoddy machine work,or both
yes there are some well made imported components , but the vast majority ,from what I've seen, are not top quality
“Quality is like buying oats. If you want nice, clean, fresh oats, you must pay a fair price.
However, if you can be satisfied with oats that have already been through the horse ...
that comes a little cheaper.”

preventing leaky head bolts/studs
many guys have coolant leaks from studs and head bolts, you don,t need that P.I.T.A. IF your going to use ARP main cap studs THE TORQUE SETTINGS ARE DIFFERENT than the original BOLTS, the STUDS ARE STRONGER, BUT,you might also consider that main studs generally install after cleaning the threads...

sellecting valve springs, and setting up the valve train
How do you determine the spring pressure needed to keep the valves under control for a given lift, duration, and max rpm. It might take you several hours to read thru all the links and sub links but its time very well spent as it could save your engine from destruction and save you thousands of...

Cam degreeing
Degreeing – In the Camshaft New racing camshafts have a cam card included that shows the specifications for that camshaft. Degreeing In the cam means verifying that the valve timing and lift are close the specifications printed on the cam card. There are several reasons to degree in a...

degree it in correctly and get it to last, cam install info,
IM frequently asked (why bother degreeing in a cam, the timing set comes with index marks to install it?) it basically comes down to, a question of do you accept a random install where the timing can be almost any place randomly or do you insist on maximizing the engines potential and know...

Precision measuring tools
I’m looking for the best quality precision tools on a limited budget (i.e. I don't want to pay $300 for one mic). I plan on building the occasional small- & big-block Chevy (more than one, less than 1000). Names that come up on the limited results I’ve found on the web include Starrett...
