850-1000cfm carb

open headers
a decent MSD or vertex ignition

That should get you there

if you build a 406 sbc like that above , you should reach your goal of an 11 second car for the strip, easily, and keeping in mind its obviously a race combo Id specify race octane 110-114 octane gas be used.
the only things Id change is to boost the cpr a bit closer to 11:1 minimum, with 11.2:1 to 11.5:1 as my cpr goal and drop the cam durration to the high 246-248 range on the same 106-108 lca, and add some lift, and add a rocker stud girdle ...example

and use 1.6:1 ratio roller rockers and 1 3/4" headers with 39" primairies and a 18" collector and the rear gear could be anything in the 3.90:1-4.33:1 range, matched to the tire dia. to result in a 6500rpm-6700rpm thru the lights,in top gear, and Id go with a 3500 stall converter and Id pay a good deal of attention to the suspension work,(CALTRACS)(AIR SHOCKS)??? that would boost the low and upper mid range torque significantly, Id gladly trade off a couple peak hp above 6500rpm for a good deal more average hp/tq in the 4000rpm-6500rpm band

the attention to details and the care used durring assembly has a good deal to do with the final results, the most comon problem I see is guys who won,t spend the money on a decent combo with great heads and large displacement who spend a good deal MORE MONEY later in an endless and basically hopeless quest for more power useing basically stock parts to (SAVE MONEY)

its fairly simple
spend the bucks on good heads, cam and a solid large displacement short block up front and youll have a hard time not making good power, but start with slightly modified stock parts and your at a HUGE disadvantage. now Im not saying you can,t make good power but its SO MUCH easier if you start with a set of good aluminum aftermarket heads, on a 383-454 sbc rather than stock heads on a 307-350

look, these guys

http://ohiocrank.com/enginekits.html

sell a 454 SMALL BLOCK for $7000 that makes 450hp/550 tq and a
454 SMALL BLOCK SHORT BLOCK ASSEMBLY for $4000

http://ohiocrank.com/short.html

that you can install a more radical cam and better heads on, and easily exceed those hp/tq numbers

example add these heads (BRO-1111002 )

http://store.summitracing.com/default.a ... p&x=22&y=9

and a crane 118581 roller cam youll have closer to 575hp/590tq

but youll need to run 110 octane gas
