either t5 or nv3500 or might just keep the 700r4.not sure yet.
what do you think power wise and what do you think it would run in the 1/4? just as a guess. im looking at high 12's as a minimum goal.

assuming the truck weights about 3300 lbs with you in it and the engine makes about 400hp at the flywheel (thats about 330 at the rear wheels) and the suspensions set up correctly,
you should make it into the 12s, but be aware stock vortec heads will require you install better valve springs and do clearance machine work to function with that lift and duration roller cam, if you stick with the 700r4 get a 3200 rpm stall converter.
personally ID select the large port vortec heads if I was concerned with getting into the 12s, and Id have selected a CRANE 110921 solid lifter cam, and 1.6:1 roller rockers ,and a transmission shift kit so you could shift at about 6200rpm to save money and allow the engine to reve to 6700rpm which the roller cam won,t do even though it costs more.

if your truck weights about 4200 lbs with you in it, which is more likely, and your expecting to build a good daily transportation engine and want good mileage then with a 3200 stall converter and that combo, you listed, youll be more likely to be running high 13 seconds unless you change several things, and Id point out its rather hopeless to try to get a good street able 355 sbc engine youll use for towing to expect both good mileage and 12 second times unless you do something like use a turbo.
the basic bottom line is you can have the 355 SBC engine built to be good transportation and make good lower rpm torque, with a milder cam, or you can build it to make impressive peak power, in a lighter weight truck, but without a supercharger or turbos your unlikely to get an engine that will perform well at both ends of the rpm range, and tow at low rpms and run the car in the mid 12 s

yes I know everything costs more than most of us can afford , after you price out your options that 355 build may not look as good and you might consider a crate big block.
