This was the first time back in the racing seat since 2007, a year after I bought the Z06 I decided to stop polishing the thing and either have some fun or collect a check for smashing it.

Late in the car show tonight was a well run event with some guys racing on a closed Industrial Park Road.
I never planed, never thought that I could get in on this event. The wife showed up with the kids and left after a short time. I ran against 2 cars, the first was a 1968 Coronet with a 383 and I had taken the win for one car length. The second, was the last race tonight and this '71 Duster w/340 just got me by half a length. I don't like running at high speeds in older cars since I have owned and drive later model cars. It's just something about the "floating" over the road surface feel, the extremely light steering that feels as though you could blow against the wheel and change lanes. The brakes feel more theoretical than factual, you instinctively know you have brakes, you just don't feel you ever really have enough to stop when you need to.

I knew I would burn up the tires, they're not the type that could benefit any from doing a burnout so it was straight up and tried for alignment on the tracks laid down prior to me. I held the gas at Just about near 1750 to 1850 rpm before letting off the brake pedal and quickly, but not the fastest I could push the gas pedal down put me ahead of the other guy. Each time he switched gears he pulled away for a car's length but I could catch him twice. The Cat seemed to attract a lot of attention all night, it didn't make any sense to me.
The second race was a kid that was not making any friends and was a big talker. I think if I wasn't so concerned about sitting while spinning my wheels and just hit the gas hard, I could have shut him up for the night.
A lot of guys dropped out of the evenings event when guys made some passes and suffered breakdowns. Some rich kids had some awesome cars and trucks. I never saw such cars in the hands of minors when I was in high school - and back then these cars cost as much as rice burners do today!
Thankfully nobody got hurt and not one car lost any fluids because that would have shut the event down in just seconds.

The icing on the cake, at one point I saw a certificate and bow on the passenger side and a hour later I came back and it was gone. Either the judges realized they made a mistake and pulled it back or one of the kids took it.

Its mainly the Factory style shocks at fault for the Floating Feeling in the 1968 Catalina Convertible Richard.
A little known secret is that Edelbrock makes excellent srteet performance shock absoarbers.
GTO SHOCKS FROM 1968 WILL FIT THE 1968 CATALINA.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR STREET RACE VICTORIES.

THE HELL WITH CAR SHOW JUDGES.
THEY DON'T DRAG RACE EVER.
ARE GAY LIKE MANY CORVETTE OWNERS.
