"HEY GRUMPYVETTE,?
I want to take the valves out of the heads to do some work on them (port/clean) and wanted to know when the valves are put back does it matter where they came out of when I reinstall them?? "
yes it can,(make a difference) especially if your not re-cutting the seats and valve angles! , or your re-using the lifters and pushrods and rockers,! use a majic marker and write the cylinder number on the valve face, and the combustion chamber it matches, because minor differences in concentricy of the valve guides valve seats, and the valve diam. and cut face angles can cause problems, OR if your going to do work on the heads that might erase the ink drill 16 3/8" holes in two twin parrallel lines of 8 holes matching the heads, with the cylinders marked on it,in a board and drop the valve stems thru the board
this would help

if you've ever ported heads , lapped valve seats or CC ed heads you quickly found that you,ll need some type of cylinder head stand to position the heads and lock them in the exact location and angle you need to easily access the ports and combustion chambers to maintain the correct angle and if you bothered to shop around youll find the stands available are either pure crap, or far to expensive so you generally find you use sand bags or fabricate your own custom cylinder head holding stands once you get fed up with them moving while your working on the heads.
