finding a machine shop you can trust

I was recently asked how to find a decent machine shop near some member in a different state!
now there's a few links and sub-links below, but your best option in my opinion,
is to visit several local race tracks and join the local corvette or muscle car clubs
talk to the obviously more involved and skilled members and car owners and take notes,

ask questions get the info and contacts you'll need!:like:

the more knowledgeable you are and the more of the precise work you can do yourself or at least have the precision measuring tools to verify that the local machine shop has done correctly the better off you'll be!
this hobby requires you to have contact with people that have skills and access to parts you may need

they can tell you whos skilled and gets the work done, both correctly and done on time and to a decent price!
Almost no one in this hobby can afford to own all the tools and acquire all the skills , and have a garage large enough to do everything they want to do to a car they own, it requires skills and tools to build a car , and knowledge and experiences most of us won't live long enough to gain all by themselves, most of us must rely at least in part on the local machine shop and the local machinists skills.
and you'll quickly find you need precision measuring tools to verify the local machinist has done the work correctly
no one knows how to do everything to a true professional skill level,
thus you will require contacts and will most likely have to pay to have some jobs on your car or engine done by the pros.
and you need to understand what needs to be done, how it's
accomplished and why proper machine work and clearances matter!
only an idiot assumes every machine shop will do every job correctly , VERIFY THE WORK! CHECK CLEARANCES CAREFULLY

obviously you can do a internet/google search to locate auto machine shops near your location

and you can bet your last dollar safely that some machine shops don.t have the skilled personnel , decades of experience,
, the quality of machinery or a we really care about your project mentality, to do the kind of work, you really need done!

READ THE LINKS AND SUB LINKS AND TAKE NOTES ASK QUESTIONS AND DON'T RELY ON A SINGLE SOURCE ALONE

btw it certainly helps if you take the time and effort to write down, in detail,
what your trying to accomplish and break it down into the smaller steps ,
and list the sequence the machine work and component purchases need to be made in.
do the calculations required to find the correct engine displacement, bore/stroke and connecting rod length, cam lift duration and LSA, port size combustion chamber and piston dome or dish volume, etc.

Yes there's I know there are deals to be found but there's also a huge amount of scammer's wanting to unload damaged blocks...

there's always some guy getting a divorce or who's recently lost his job. or moving out of state,
example
I sold 5 complete BBC engines when I moved to texas at absurdly low prices simply because I had no easy way to transport them.
if you know some place near texas, so I know situations change?

links and sub links to get you thinking, Id like to build a 572-598 cid twin turbo BBC, EFI, engine for personal use, this time
I've built a few NON-turbo BBC engines of similar displacement for others in the past/
