mid range 383 sbc build

without MAJOR changes the only obvious thing is a change to a full length header and a free flow 3" exhaust, and thats probably not really cost effective in that the cost far out runs the potential gains in a street car

What major changes would you be talking about? Just curious.

youve got a very well designed combo, for the application, and I don,t see any way to tweak it to gain significantly more horsepower or performance in a heavy car and not completely re-working the combo, while retaining the vast majority of the components, you could do,semi crazy stuff like adding expensive 18 degree, race cylinder heads, stack injectors etc, which will be very expensive, and not really match the applicaton, but if your like most guys you may want to improve the power to weight ratio, and performance anyway.
theres a dozen routes you might want to go,
add a turbo?
or a super charger?
lighter weight body components?
NITROUS?
One of the newer transmissions, like a 6 speed trans, (EITHER AUTO OR MANUAL)
a BIG BLOCK, etc.
truefully it looks like your combo is pretty much almost ideal for the application now, so I don,t think ID get crazy, ID just enjoy what you have, because its much nicer than most guys have, OR ID start thinking about swapping the whole drive train out or swapping to a totally new and lighter weight car, with that current drive train or just starting over.

BTW IVE gone most of those routes on cars in the past, its a truely bottomless money pit, your better off AVOIDING,
