I want to buy a new Distributor for the Buick 300 V8 engine in my girlfriends Corvair.
The old point unit is worn out and I don't want to overhaul it.
I found MSD and Pertronix, MSD has no vac advance. Pertronix has vac advance.
What would you recommend?

I think the Pertronix would work great, I would go with Ignitor II, new spark plug wires and new coil.
I installed two Pertronix Ignitor III Distributor on SBC's in the past on friends cars. They are working good.
Not so tuner friendly like MSD.

Thats what I thought, vacuum is a must have for this engine.
I hope I can tune one of the two Rochester 2G's like I do with Holley carbs. I have no experience with these carbs.
But Ignition first than carb.

They are real simple to tune.
Key is finding Rochestor 2G main jets. Used on Chevy 348 Tripower, Pontiac 389-421 Tri-Power.
Oldsmobile J2 Tripower 1957-58 & 1966 442 only, Cadillac Tripower....that is really rare today.

Seldom have to touch the Power piston spring in them. Real forgiving.
Mild cam used makes it easy to tune.

Radical Race cam low vacuum its a challenge.

All parts are stock, there is nearly no performance part for these engine on the market. Ignition parts and a Crower cam was the only parts I found.
I will build headers from scratch.

I have to dig around.
I bought a few extra Rochestor 2G Jets for Pontiac Tripower but will be the same for all Rochestor 2bbl.
Really good street carbs.
Made 1955-1978 or so.

Someone should sell the 2G Jets online yet.

Drag Car does not make the best street car.
Always have to fiddle with it.

Lots on You Tube...

They have a real nice Emulsion Circuit.
Similar to Street and Race Holley carbs we like.

Suck in many Q-jet found in 1975-87...those were tuned for Smog era.

Thank you for the information. I will check AFR when the engine is running again in a few weeks. Than I will see what to do. One 2G is from Pontiac and one is the original for the 300 V8.

.058 -.062 main jets likely a good place to start.
