The EPA announced in June that in 2020 one of their top seven initiatives will be to
“focus on stopping the manufacture, sale, and installation of aftermarket defeat devices on vehicles and engines,
used on public roads as well as on nonroad vehicles and engines.
Illegally-modified vehicles and engines contribute substantial excess pollution that harms public health,
and impedes efforts by the EPA, tribes, states and local agencies to plan for and attain air quality standards.”
This means any non emissions compliant part or non emissions compliant part for any emissions compliant engine,
has not only been deemed illegal by the EPA for racing purposes
but they intent to start enforcing this on “nonroad vehicles and engines”
ie drag cars, etc.

this effectively outlaws the modification of cars , and it could easily force
you to deal with dealerships as your only approved parts sources
"The United States automotive aftermarket is estimated to be worth $318.2 billion (2013),
contributing more than 2.3% to GDP. The aftermarket employs 4.2 million people,
who work at manufacturers, distributors, retailers and repair shops."
the true value is easily three times that value,
as that fails too included all the people indirectly working in, or supporting the industry ,
supplying materials and tooling and components, shipping companies,
machine tooling, building maintenance, construction, mining, etc. are not included in that number
