I donated a carb that was rebuilt professionally 4 or 5 yrs ago and never used since. I never thought twice about the shelf life until the recipient of this carb began asking questions. When I asked the guy who rebuilt the carb he said the accelerator pump is going to be bad and the dried fuel will be blocking the various passages in the carb.
In my opinion I think the extreme was taken answering my question. Originally when that carb came back to me rebuilt it was dry, not even a drip or any smell. I didn’t think there was any gas left from testing.
The recipient is not a mechanic by any means and I already promised this carb didn’t need a rebuild.
I need some ideas on what easy steps can be done - ie; flushing with a cleaner that will dissolve any dried fuel and how to test for a bad pump (I really don’t believe a quality pump could go bad in this exact circumstance).
