Solid roller cam selection.

I am doing a new build, Dart shp block, forged crankshaft, 6inch rod, 12.9 to 13.1 comp. race ready heads out the box, Hurricane intake, 850 carb, 4000 to 4500 stall, 350trans, 430 gears 91 s10 that weighs 2850, and really need some help selecting a cam solid roller, the engine is going to be drag only , don't want to spin the crap out of the engine want it to last for a few years.

personally Id be thinking along the lines of these cams matched to 1.6:1 roller rockers
between these two extremes
please read the link below
then call several cam manufacturers
keep in mind Im trying to maximize your useful engine torque and durability ,
and yet, still provide good peak horsepower,
I always prefer rock solid durability over a few extra hp.
naturally you'll need to verify valve train spring load rates , geometry and clearances

mild

more radical (I'd favor this one)
but I personally would not go more radical even if the cam manufactures suggested doing so.

maybe RICK can run a software dyno??

if you provide some needed missing info
head flow rates exact displacement etc.

I kinda assumed it was mostly these parts

Cubic inch and what heads are you breathing through? Exhaust set up? What do you consider your max rpm?

406 cubic inch, Afr220 race ready heads 2.10 in 1.60 ext valve. Here are the advertised flow numbers. Intake,.200/155,.300/210,.400/260,.500/295,.550/304,.600/312, .650/318. Ext = .200/116,.300/162, .400/204,.500/220,.550/225, .600/229,.650/233. Flow numbers. Headers are 1 7/8, 3.5 collectors. Full length. And really don't want to go above 7400 rpm. If you need more info please let me know and I greatly appreciate your time to help me with this, looking forward to hearing back from you. God bless. Robert

Rick can give you some great graphs if he is up for it. What brand stall are you considering? Are you going to dyno this motor? What kind of ring package?

I would like that if he is willing? Converter is a fti, yes I am considering having it put on a dyno, pistons are srp forged with 1/16, 1/16, 3/16. I had a Howard's 640 645, 263/273@.50 106lsa, in another 406 we built last year, I did get ahold of MJ on recommendation for a cam twice, about 2mths apart and got 2 different answers, not sure if it was what he recommended or someone else working there??? But I would like to have him grind me one, just unsure what one. Soon as I get home I'll show you the choices from 4 different places and maybe I can get help deciding. Thanks to all for reading and posting, I'll be back shortly.

Were you happy with the 263/273 Howards?

Honestly I never got to drive the truck and see how it performed. Here's what a few cam companies offered. A=264/272 @.50.688 lift 107lsa. B= 266/274@.50 672/656 lift,109.5 lsa,106Icl (109.5+3.5). C=260/267@.50 686/685 after lash with 1.6 rockers110Lsa. D=254/258@.50 660/659 after lash with 1.6 rockers 110Lsa. There all with 1.6 rockers.
