I generally see about a 10%-12% increase in power when I rebuild a 350 into a 383 with minimal upgrades other than the displacement increase and about a 8%-10% decrease in mileage, the difference is due to the lower average rpms the power can be used at IF the operator keeps his foot OFF the throttle, this results in about a wash or minimal increase in over all fuel cost for distance covered if you have an over drive transmission like a 200r4 or 700r4 and your able to keep you big foot off the throttle. I generally suggest you build a 383 with a mild cam having about 208 -212 intake duration @ .050 lift and a 9.5:1 compression and something like 2.87:1-3.07 rear gears , have a tach installed and keep the rpms well below 2000rpms if maximizing mileage is your prime concern.
obviously thats not going to be the best potential combo for smoking tires or impressing your buddies with impressive low E.T. times. but you do see an increase in power thats quite useful while cruising on the highway or passing speeds with that type of combo, and a combo like that will generally allow the car to cruise and accelerate impressively at high way speeds
- FIRST TPI Intake.(good choice)
you can frequently gain the required clearance for use of a stroker crank , on the stock oil pan, with a few well placed additional dents in the oil pan rail areas with a 3 lb ball peen hammer but the correct route is to buy a baffled oil pan and windage tray with the clearance built in.
when buying a corvette oil pan ground clearance is tight, a baffled 7"-7.5" deep oil pan thats designed for YOUR block that holds 7 quarts is generally the best choice youll need to know which side the dip sticks on and the gaskets thickness used so as questions before ordering to insure you get the correct oil pan for your application
