that's because once its resting on your engine cranes lower frame after the wheels sink into the dirt! its damn hard to tip or move!

I want to add Puentic air tires of some sort onto my Engine hoist cherry picker.
But when I put my Trans Am back together it must be low profile as it is now.
The car sits naturally very low, low center of gravity for superb high speed handling above 100 mph.
 
The actuator on there is fine.
Napa warranty was 1 year.
Its been on there since 2012. Never failed. When I need 4wd High or 4wd Low, 10 seconds later it engages positive every time.
 
But when I put my Trans Am back together it must be low profile as it is now.

The same with my TransAm. I have to jack up the frame to get the cherry picker under and I have to lift
the front end with my back just to get a hydraulic jack under.
 
I spent a good part of the day scrubbing parts clean with Solvent & a Solvent Brush.
I pulled the crankshaft out of the replacement TBI 350 Shortblock.
Did that removing all Rod caps and pushing each piston & rod assembly to TDC.
Then removed the main caps.
Lifted the Crankshaft Straight up and out.
Cleaned the crankshaft.
Then went to my Bud Steves Machine shop this evening.
He micro polished the Crankshaft Msin & Rod Journals.
In the morning I will Micrometer check the Crankshaft.
Measure & see what I have.
I have .001" oversize Main & Rod Bearings.
If all checks out OK Then I will assemble the shortblock.
Then Complete the Valvejob myself.
Goal is to have my Suburban running and Driving again this Friday night.
 
Grumpy, this would be a great place to post some links about mixing STD and .001" oversized
bearings to dial in closer to ideal oil clearances.
 
The Shortblock is built.
I stopped last night after installing the Cloyes street roller TBI timing chain set and tin timing cover.
Oil pump is on. Melling M55A Z28 oil pump.
Mains & Rods checked out with .0015" running oil clearances.
Vandervell bearings are high crush style.
Everying must be spotless clean.
Should see 80-100 psi hot oil temps with this engine and 10w30 oil.

Didn't photigraph.
Measured and worked yesterday.
Its a Tricky procedure dropping a crankshaft back in with rods & pistons installed.
I used rolled up shop towels to hold Rod forks where I wanted.
Eyeball.
Drop crank in slowly & rotated to clear at same time.
Impossible to photograph.
Working alone & take somebody else to shoot the camera.

I have lots of experience so I can pull it off.
 
Install the Rear Main seal assembly this morning & oil pan & Harmonic balancer
1-piece rear main.

Then get the valvejob done.

Goal is to drop the engine in tomarrow.
 
Thrust end play checks out at. .004".
Nice mint undamaged crankshaft.

The Last job I had to rebuild a Cummins M11 Diesel in the Dirt too.
In an International Tractor.

The dirt is actually damp. No dust.
Getting it done.

Its important to look up specs.
Tuned Port Corvette short blocks are almost identical to the Throttle Body Truck Engines.

Interesting that interference valve job angles are used on my 1987 Corvette 350 TBI engine.
 
Working on the Cylinder heads for the replacement Suburban TBI engine.
Grinding the Valves now.
Cleaning up nice.

The 193 Heads are strange.
Definitely designed for Torque.
Pictures on Net don't show the Pinch point.

Running 2-3 days behind.

Valve guides are in good shape.
Unlike used Vortech heads I have seen prior.
