That is Funny! No not a chance no worries. I have realized a great deal from reading posts around the internet and the hours of reading that Grumpy has provided to me that just does not end! Just as i think i am through it the next page has 20 more links that each has 20 more links. Thankfully some actually double up on past readings. So i have grown an 18 inch beard sifting through it all.
It appears that one can buy these kits at $500.00 cam and lifters. (obviously garbage) kits $800.00 that have springs, retainers camshaft , pushrods ,lifters. keepers, timing chain, (more garbage)
and than $1500.00 that give you lifters and cam that will actually handle over 7000 rpm, but you still need springs, retainers, keepers, pushrods, stud girdle, and odds and ends.
The lower end kits with the $350.00-550.00 lifters seem to be were the majority of the problems stem from unfortunately. It is also the most profitable for vendors and the most affordable for the general public. This roller stuff done right may be worth visiting but from a performance stand point you have to put some serious coin into it to do it right or not do it at all.
I am starting to believe that one is better off to go Solid Roller than invest in these mediocre hyd roller kits that limit performance and appear to be great for puttering around but that is it. The durability is indeed questionable unless you keep things below 5500rpm. Not really what i have in mind from a performance standpoint.
More expensive to do it right going down that road now I lucked out and found my lifters at about half price from an abandoned project. Other wise they would have been around $1100. I am only aiming to spin up 7300 cause I want to keep some low end also. I am also not building a drag engine. I need my engine to run on the street and in a road race environment. Waste of time going solid roller with those heads!!! They fall on there face after .600 and there is not enough room to port them into miracles. So you want a cam as close to .600 lift as possible if your next problem that needs to be addressed is the spring pockets unless you want to run a nascar set of springs that cost close to $1000. Again solid roller not helping but hydraulic roller springs come on those heads unless you changed them. And even if so can be had cheap. You can run an aggressive hydraulic roller that will work with your set up for much more reasonable price. Ask how I know been down this road. The port on the 195 head becomes restrictive at higher RPMs.
Here is set of great hydraulic roller lifters for a reasonable price recommended to me by Mike Jones of Jones Cams he also gave me a cam recommendation this was when I still had the AFR 195s R75365-110 244/244 @.050 .365"/.365" 110 LSA, Steel Billet, w/iron gear $441.64 recommender to use 1.6:1 rockers stated would work with the AFR PAC springs that came on my heads. Those Morel lifters are the same as Howards and a few other cam companies they supply allot of cam companies with lifters. That is an aggressive hydraulic that will spin to 7000 losing only about 10hp to a solid roller. Your heads are your limiting factor in this case but you are still talking around 550hp here said and done.
