Best Location for Oil Temperature Sender

Hello, I have a 1991 L98 that I have just rebuilt and am adding secondary Auto Meter gauges to ensure everything is running properly. I am adding a transmission temperature gauges, water temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and oil temperature gauge. So far I have located all in good locations with the exception of the oil temperature gauge. The oil pressure sender is in the top of the block behind the china wall.

I wanted to put the temperature sensor above the oil filter where as I understand they locate it in Corvettes. However, my factory pressure switch is located there, which I need to keep.

So, my question. Is there anywhere else I can mount my oil temperature sender (1/8" NPT) where is would provide reliable readings? If not, can I branch out from the factory sending location with a pipe nipple with a tee at the end and run the pressure sender and temperature sender?

Thoughts and help as always are much appreciated!

yes you can use a TEE fitting, to mount both sensors, but doing so tends to change the registered temp reading because it can allow other factors to influence the oil temperature slightly, moving the temperature sensor above the oil filter where it reads correctly and moving the pressure sensor & oil pressure switch to the upper china wall and use of a TEE is a better solution

keep in mind oil temp sensors are notorious for going defective and reading wrong

grumpy, are you saying to put the oil temp. sending unit in the hole just above the oil filter pad (for lack of a better word)? The hole that is 90° to the crankshaft and if you remove the plug, it go's straight to the oil galley (above the oil filter) that the filtered oil go's to, to feed the rest of the block oil? My block is a Gen I 350 block casting number 3970010.

once the engines up to its normal operational temperature range, oil temperature does not normally make rapid changes, during its travels in the block lubrication passages
rapid changes in rpm levels and loads on the engine will obviously raise the oil temps. but that rise in temp will be recorded at any point in the engine within seconds as the hotter oil reaches the sensors.
most people select the port above the oil filter on blocks that have that port available, to install the oil temp sensor.
Engine Oil Temperature Sensor. Left rear of engine, just above the oil filter
depending on the rpm levels, engine clearances and the oil pump, your using, theres 2-7 gallons of oil passing thru those oil passages per minutes
most guys put the temperature sensor as close to the oil filter as they can but its not super critical to do so, you can use a TEE and access the sensor near the distributor, or on some blocks theres an access port plug near the timing cover, the temperature of the oil will be a bit different at each location but within a few degrees , and as long as the oil temps are monitored and your aware if and when the temperatures fall below about 215F or above about 240F, youll be fine in any location

look closely at this block above the oil filter

some early c4 vettes have the gauge and oil pressure switch on an adapter near the distributor base into the block
