Can you plan for quench

More cubes demand more airflow SBC .
Kinda of a trend.
Real problem has been no true big tube headers . You can have starting at $2,000 cash.

Rather take the $2k and go Big block myself .

I have tattooing side money right now which is good and a few extra $$ from paint work but would rather go with out the Chevelle all summer and be happy next spring cause we all know kids and fall means time for x-mas shopping will play with the ####'s more this week, see what is feasible for a build. Would really like that torque and stump ripping power if it is not at a crazy cost. Putting the numbers down on paper and comparing costs tells the whole story. Pick up block today all good cylinders are .010 out on standard bore. $145 plus tax all that is invested so far.

I have to agree Brian with you there the thought has crossed my mind I still haven't taken the old engine apart to check the damage could not be as bad I think or could be worst. Either way after the block saw the heat cycling it just did it will be ready for the scrap yard. I would sell on craigslist but would not be fair to unsuspecting buyer.

You have to look at the entire picture John. What parts you have on hand now.
Reuse. Build around those parts.
I would build a 383 SBC AFR 195.
350 Ci Based.
Use the Scat crankshaft and Scat Rods.
Forged crankshaft not needed at your power level.
SCAT 9000 Series cast crank rated to 500 HP. Be hard pressed to hit 500 HP In reality without drag race or Schoenfield Sprint dirt track headers used.
Use the 5.7 " center to center long rods.
Use the Keith Black Hyperutic Pistons with 18 CC Dish.
Give you the dynamic compression you need to run on 91 octane pump gas.
No screwing around or custom machining required .
Build the 383 SBC Stump Puller.
Afterwards install a Posi case in the Chevelle. And 3.23-3.90 gears.
Bye Bye 2.73 geared One legger.

Don't worry about that engine now.
Building your Own.
Just as your Dad would have done.
