CS144 They are Bar None the Very Best Internal Regulated Non PCM external black box alternator ever made.
The only reason to use a Vintage 10DN or 10SI is for a pure stock restoration.
For C2 & Early C3 Corvettes with the mighty 327, 350 LT1, 396 BB, 427 Tripower & King of the Hill L88 Hemi 426 Killer Street Race car, 454.
DZ302 ci V8.
Pontiac side be 1968 Ram Air II.
1969-1970 Pontiac Ram Air IV.
I see absolute no reason to use otherwise here on Grumpys where Hotrod & Race car is desired.
CS130 is just Ok.
Trust me it can not handle high amp loads very well in summer time heat with modern electric fans used we all like & prefer.
Just 2 superior mechanical flex fans were ever used and that is the 1967-1969 L88 Corvette.
1970 Pontiac Trans Am RAIV ...none had AC ever..race car like a L88 Vette.
Its been along time since the CS144 was installed production new on GM Vehicles.
Once the LS 5.3 came along the CS 144 was replaced with a PCM PWM DR44. Good alternator too but it needs computer control or an aftermarket Black box added to make it turn and self regulate charge.
I can tell you it sucks when your out cruising & the alternator fails.
Leaves you stranded.
The daily driver too.
Found a small supply of these new Remy CS144 alternators.
Made in Mexico but last one I took apart was A-Ok & decent parts used.
With everything going on....Not sure how much longer the stock will be there.
They are not as plentiful to find used as once was.
They only came standard stock on Later C4 Corvettes & SS Impala LT1.
Optional on many other GM Trucks, Tahoe , & Suburban so not every vehicle had them when new.
Most had the cheeper smaller CS130.
Building a CS144 1-wire charge output soon for my old T/A.
Need 100 % reliability.
Using the best alternator ever made CS144.
Moroso Racing Pulley 5.00 inch because its High RPM use I will do.
Have another CS144 coming in next week.
Build it the same but with a different drive pulley so it charges yet at 750-800 crank rpm & belt stays on yet up to 6500 RPM.
