Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

WOW! Ive got to say thats impressive!
I could not work on a car at single digit temps unless I was forced into it!
no doubt your EARNING your pay at those temps and under those conditions, Id sure have the wife fix me a good hot meal , some hot coffee and a shot of hot brandy before turning in, and throw a extra blanket on the bed after that!

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

Hot Brandy Does Sound Great Grumpy :D
She is A NAGGIN>>>>>NO CAR> SUBURBAN TOO BIG & UP TO HIGH IN THE AIR FOR HER TO DRIVE ANYWHERE.

I would like to put a 2 inch to 4 inch Body Lift on it. Really Drive over anything. A Detroit Locker in the Rear Diff too.... Richmond Gear Made Powertrax No-Slip Locker, They work great, quiet operation, Instant engagement, Real Brass synchronizer rings inside, Super tough, What they call Zytanium construction, 8620 Super Alloy steel & Heat treated deep, Just $500 Big Ones.. ;)

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

thats unfortunate, i dont see any piston damage... hows the cylinder walls? looks like it just spit out the piece of that valve... good news i guess if it was gonna break good that it broke nicely

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

Cylinder walls are A-Ok Phil.
Blew the missing pie shaped exhaust valve out the tailpipe.

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

Hey, when your on the re-assembly, please can you post picture so i can see how to do the cam timing on this thing?

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

I will Matheu.
Its actually easy on her Honda 2.0 4banger.
Guide alignment. holes in both cams & cam bearing caps.
Would have been more detailed in photos.
Just got cold fast with Sunset.
Get to break out my Sioux Valve grinding equipment for you guys.
Working now. Check in later.

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

Having in the past worked on toyotas, nissans and hondas I try hard to avoid a repeat, job on those engines like the BLACK PLAGUE!
I totally rebuilt my datsun inline 6 back in about 1989 and while it ran great after the rebuild, I hated working on it and it was BY FAR the easiest 6 cylinder in-line I ever worked on,as it was a rather nice rear wheel drive truck, I refuse to work on front wheel drive, import cars... PERIOD!

I am a modern day mechanic Grumpy.
I have to work on it all.
That Towel Head Bastard In the Whitehouse playing POTUS Fucked us All.
I will be a Conservitive on The Right Side to the Day I Die.
Working on Corvettes & Race Cars 50% of the time was a Reality before that Democrat Jackass & Fucken Bankers Crashed All.
I work in a Unique shop. Big Diesel shop on 1 Side.
Other side of my Snap On Tool box its Automotive & pickups.
My bud Steve with his machine shop is down the road 200 feet.
We can't dictate what we can choose to fix or not no longer.
I do It All.

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

yeah, i once tryed to change the water pump on a VW diesel.
omg, had to take the timing belt off.. and needed a special tool and procedure for the cam and injector pump timing.
I just give up, and never worked on anything but american v8 or v6(and the 6.5 td).

The 1St car I ever put a timing belt on was A Ford Escort GT.
About 1990-91. I hated it too. Practice makes perfect.
The more you do, more versed you become at it.
These High Tech Single & Dual Overhead cam engines are here to stay.
Only the Corvette 2013-2014 is pushrod overhead valve layout still.
Her Honda is old school now. No Variable valve timing. No VTech.
Gets decent gas milage. Why I am saving it also.
Luberal Democrats want $7-12 buck Gasolne prices. $15 buck a gallon diesel.
Grumpy & me hate those Demo Demon Basterds.
Can't trust them. Give them an inch & they take 100,000 miles instead.
This thread can teach us old school mechanics to learn & survive with New overhead stuff.

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

I like the Shot Gun Semi Hemi Rail Better Grumpy.
Phil would Twin Turbo Either for us.
Just a Legendary Engine.
Race only original .
Unique to say the Least.
I am Picturing Mickey Thompson driving A Shotgun after he left Pontiac & went Ford Racing.
He never could Top his 406 mph run in 1960 with his 4 Pontiac engine Streamliner Challenger 1.
Tried with Fords.
The Pontiac engines were 2 415 ci Strokers.
1 pair of 450 ci Stroker Ponchos.

Re: Fixing the 1999 Honda CRV AWD B20Z2 4cyl DOHC For the Wi

i tell you what... i genuinely want to convince the owner of the ZR1 to let us turbocharge it for him... hes a purist tho. we had to twist his arm to put the five spoke ZR1 wheels on it (the 335/35/17 look small out back)

however ive tinkered with alot of DOHC car in the past, all ford modulars.

you want a sleeper 32 valve car? drop a 76mm turbo in a 98 lincoln mark viii and back it with a built c4 and a gear vendors over drive. the stock TEKSID block is good to 1200+ hp (ive witnessed cars with between 300-1200 hp race with teksid blocks but ive read that guys have put 2000 hp through them) aluminum with cast iron sleeves, six bolt mains, lighter and stronger (power rating) than the 03-04 terminator cobra IRON BLOCK motors.

i prefer the 98 only because it has body colored grille and the nicest interior and trim packages (did i mention all mustang wheels from 94-2013 seem to look awesome on these cars?)

wow we got off topic here!

update: john milhovetz apparently ran teksid blocks in his 2000+hp mercury cougar race car

My New Overhead Cam Valvespring compressor came in yesterday.
Took the B0Z2 Honda head apart.
Not a single store sold it local. Other than Napa special order for $160.
I bought mine from a seller on fleabay in Nebraska. $50 bucks & free shipping.
Made by Neiko Tools. Made Nice. Worked Perfect.
Saved $110 Bucks.....

Not liking 1 exhaust seat.
Let my bud Steve check it out.
Think it should be replaced.
His specialty. Has the Sunnen Head machine with sliding air table.
