Hello! '87 Vette in South Florida

Hello! I've had my '87 C4 since April of this year. I picked it up for a great price because of an issue with the coolant in the oil. The car is in excellent shape and seems to have been garage-kept its entire life.

I consider this car a 'project car' and look forward to modifying her for performance and general fun street driving. I've removed the air pump to clean up the engine bay and installed long-tube headers and a DIY exhaust. I'm also using the opportunity to learn a bit of OBD1 tuning and have a DIY PROM burned and installed.

For the next steps, I plan on potentially porting the intake, and I also have a set of 1.6 roller-tip rockers to install. I've also picked up a set of 113 heads I will be porting.

I've joined this forum because I've seen Grumpy's posts on other sites, and he seems extremely knowledgeable. I'm hoping some of the experience rubs off. I'm located just outside Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks for having me!

David

What are some unique and creative ways to enhance security in your garage besides the typical alarm systems and CCTV cameras?
Example: Has anyone tried using motion-activated lights that mimic the appearance of someone being present in the garage, or perhaps installing a dummy security camera to deter potential burglars?

the price of real active functional cameras is much lower and the quality, clearity and range has improved remarkably in recent years.
yeah motion detecting lights and infrared cameras are helpful, and if you shop carefully cost far less than what your likely to lose if you don.t take security precautions.
basics like having motion activated lights near all garage doors is obvious but you can now have cameras, either wired or wireless.
simple precautions like a fenced yard , locked gates and owning a couple dogs also helps (even if its 4 dachshunds that go ballistic if they hear anyone walking in the yard) they at least let you know well before anyone reaches 1/3rd up the driveway that someone's in the area,
so you look at the numerous cameras (btw get the kind of security cameras that record so you can go back over what went on when you were not observant or home!)

I have two locks that trap the door roller on both sides so no matter how hard they try to raise the door it's not going up more than 4-5 inches.
