Is there a posting here on Carburetor identification?

The divorced choke is the one attached to the intake.

A search on the serial 7043062 finds rebuild kits and some info on 2GCs though... which has the choke attached to the carb.. So, I am not really sure what the story is..

In the 3rd photo, bottom of the bowl in front (ahead of the throttle linkage), if you look closely I think there is a drywall screw blocking off something. Am I correct? What would be connected there?

They kept the original upper airhorn.
Swapped out the main carb bowl body.

Is this going to cause me hair loss upon rebuilding and fine tuning?

I've got a 2GV and the reading I did led me to believe that the 2GV and 2GC are internally the same, so my guess is not...?

At least yours has a serial on it... mine doesn't and the tag is long gone... So, I'll have to do some guess work if I decide to rebuild it... I'll probably not bother... It needs it, but I'd rather put the $$ towards the new demon carb :)

The rebuild kits look like they cater for quite a few models though..

I've got a tired old chevy 307 at the moment and I'm building a 383. I had hoped to have the 383 ready for summer, but it's looking like late summer at the moment, if the speed of the machine shop is anything to go by.... But, I'm not too fused as it allows the finances to keep pace.. ;)

In the short term, I'm thinking that I'll swap out the 2GV and chev intake for the performer RPM intake and a street demon 625cfm (which my carb of choice for the 383)

I imagine it'll probably be a bit much intake and carb for the engine, but I hope it will make the 307 run a little smoother than the 2GV that needs a rebuild....

No Richard. The 400 Ci Pontiac V8 is running Very Strong now .
Its a Real Simple Carburator to rebuild.
You have to get the Float Drop set correct. Most important .
Same design carb the 2GV As Pontiac Tripowers.

Its my opinion but I think the extra $$$ spent on an AED Racing Carburator is worth it.
Quickfuel carbs are great too.
Bo Laws BLP the Best but its very expensive.

Have you got some links Brian?

I'm keen on the Demon carbs, mainly because Grumpy recommended them and made a good argument for why I was best to go with a fairly user friendly carb on my first build :)

I do plan to buy and rebuild maybe a holley carb at some stage, just for fun, so I can get familiar with how they operate. But, idiot proof is probably a good thing for this build... ;)

Did you end up rebuilding the 2Gv Rich? How did it go?

The timeframes for my 383 build are stretching due to a slow machine shop... So rebuilding the 2bbl seems like it might be worth the $$ and effort..

I'm doing the rebuild tonight in between watching the late night horror shows. I don't have a new in carb filter yet and I don't think the choke pull-off is working. Also on tonight's menu, new plugs, belts, valve cover gaskets, pumping out the brake fluid, replacing any old looking hoses, installing a windshield washer hose system that didn't exist and detailing under the hood.
I like these carbs and can't find any reason not to rebuild a Quadrajet or a Rochester 2 jet as long as you have a good one from the start. I don't ever like to touch the typical Craig's L. Used Carbs and the same for eBay's too. They tend to be mass refurbished at the lowest contract price and short cuts are likely found. Jerry rigged bushings, mix/matched parts stripped out threads for the fuel inlets. A correct rebuild should work every bit as well as when it was brand new 50 years ago. There is also a couple of great books on Amazon.com on how to tune Rochesters for top performance and are widely known and used.

Sounds like a fun night! Wish I had someone nearby that was keen to fiddle with a car in between talking shit and having few drinks... ;)

My carb has no working choke.... the divorced choke was gone before I got it.. Coldest it gets here is 2 or 3 degrees C and I don't drive on a day like that anyway.. The crappy plastic choke pull-off fell apart, so I plugged the vacuum hole and left the pull-off to continue to be useless... I'm thinking it'll be months before I'm changing to a 4bbl, so I might rebuild the 2bbl and hopefully fix the bog under acceleration... I'll have to order a kit from over your side of the world... Because the id tag is missing it'll potentially be a bit of a gamble as to what kit I need...

Hope the rebuild goes well. I'll look into those books and there are a few videos and write-ups detailing the steps involved.
