I have a 98 Siverado, 6 vortex. I have no idea what size.
A few nights ago without any warning whatsoever it went out wile driving a steady speed of 65-70 mph. It simply made a POP and started to coast to a stop. At first I thought the fan belt had broken as the noise was not loud at all. It would and still does shift just as easy as it ever did but nothing happens except in 4th gear. 4th will still function but none of the other gears will at all, including reverse. You can start the engine, put it in gear, release the clutch, crawl under it and watch as the drive shaft does nothing.
40 years ago I would have rebuilt it in an hour or two while drinking a beer and bs-ing with a friend. I no longer drink and any friends I have would be unavailable if I mentioned work. I am also 40 years older and this transmission is not out of a 1951 Chevy.
Eventually, most likely when it gets too cold to ride a motorcycle, which won't be long, I will pay someone to replace it. Between now and then can someone tell me what the hell happened? No grinding, no forcing gears, I baby my vehicles, etc. I would think only 1 or 2 gears would be gone instead of only having 1 remaining.
Your thoughts?
