Working on completing Rick's CS144 Alternator for the T-bucket by end of the work week.
Warmed up parts on the furnace prior to paint with Glyptal & Ceramic Aluminum paint outside in the 20 degree F cold weather. The trick worked.
Dried with my Snap On Heat Gun for next 1-1/2 hours.

Double Cool !!!

I can see where the Glyptal would help hold the winding on the rotating
stator, but what purpose does it server on the other stationary parts???

Impervious to oil, salt spray, dirt, long term moisture exposure. 100- 2,000 years + the Glyptal will still be on Your CS 144 Rotating electromagnetic field & The fixed stator windings.
Protects - Prevents High KV insulation breakdown.

Also in Todays world Rick, if a Towel Head Terrorist friend of POTUS Bam Bam Slama drops a Nuke bomb Nearby, The Super Powerful EMF created won't lukely burn up the Glyptal coatings & Copper windings intact. Don't short between inter windings.

Also its the way I wad taught to do.
The Best only.
WW2 Military & Avionics built the same way.

Its time consuming & expensive.
Why others don't Glytal Coat Rick.

Those WW2 Warbird Fighter planes & Bombers built the same way with all electrical & electroic.
GE Glyptal. used to insulate & protect.

Well that's excellent news !!!

BUT I'm more worried about the driver, what happens to me !!! :D
Do they have a version for humans???

With Grumpys Strategy......
We could possibly GLYPTAL Allllll Muslum Terrorists. Including the one Dressed in Blue Suits.
:D

That's a better idea, I don't think I would look good in a Gylptal suit !

I am assembling your CS144 T-bucket alternator this afternoon & evening Rick.
More pictures coming.
Busy week .
Had to search & find more 2% Silver Electronic grade Ronsin core Solder.
All I will use to build the Best.
Not the easiest to locate. Bought plenty today to last me.

Exciting !!!

I bet that solder is a bit expensive!

Yesterday my order for over 1700 feet of wire came in, including 25 feet
of 4 AWG wire for the alternator you are building. Should only need about
8-10 feet for this installation thou.

I finished The T-bucket CS144 Alternator Build Rick.
Get Pics up in the morning. Took plenty of Pictures.
Want to spin test for Current & Voltage output.
May do Sunday. Or wait till Monday after work.
Turned out nice for You.

I used the stock 2nd generation CS144 External cooling fan Rick.
The all metal 17si fan like I used on Dorian's CS144 is hard to find.
Just don't hit 8K RPM crank speed.
Stock modular steel plastic fan may fail.
Its a high CFM fan stock. Great for cruising & long traffic idle time.

LOOK OK TO YOU ?

Damn right it looks good !!!

I will try to keep it below 8k RPM, it would be funny thou, to see the rider
with me bail out of the car at 8 grand thinking that would be safer! :D

A few questions ......

What's the copper sheet for, is it protecting the case while you are soldering maybe?

What are those sizes in the photo below, want to make sure I have the right ones
before the Alternator gets here.

Do you have a couple of the blank wire connectors for the weatherpack connector ???
I want to run wires without a splice if I can.

When I click on your pictures and go to your photo bucket, I can't click on the arrow
to step thru the pictures. I have to come back to the forum and click on each picture.
Is there something on your end that would easily fix that?

it sure looks good!

both your work done on the alternator and your ability with posting pictures is impressive!
and frankly I wish you did it even more often,(post detailed pictures)
in these threads,
because it helps the guys reading thru these threads to better understand whats being done!
as I,m sure you realize the vast majority of the guys reading thru these threads don,t have the experience and skill level required to do similar work, and the only way they are likely to acquire it is if they get detailed instructions so they don,t feel the work will be far above their ability to do it.
now if I can just convince you, rick and dorianL and a few of the other more experienced "CAR GUYS"too buy homes on my block , or at least with-in the neighbor hood, so we can all spend time helping each other on projects I think we might all benefit!
think about it, having 5 acres too mow, is not that bad a trade off for having the room to work and no one generally cares if you park a few cars out behind your home, plus fishing is year round, and walking around in a shirt and sandals is almost year round,
BTW its about 73F degrees out and a bit cloudy, with a few occasional 10mpg wind gusts, type breeze,s here, making working out in the shop just pleasant today, so if your up to your knees in snow or the temps below comfortable short sleeve shirt levels think about moving here ID sure welcome the help and opportunity to help out you guys! and keep in mind "WINTER here, in mid florida" is usually defined by a couple 24 hour-72 hour cold snaps in mid jan-feb, in the 35F-45F range and most years thats only for at most two or three times with most of the fall-thru winter into spring temps falling in the 70f-60F range, the last time I remember it snowed here was 35 years ago and it melted on contact with the ground with-in minutes

You sure make it sound good Grumpy :!: Maybe after the wife is gone.

But if we don't hurry, it's going to be a bunch of guys pushing each other
around the shop in wheel chairs! :p

Bet I have the fastest wheel chair thou!

I am bound & determined to meet you in person Grumpy.
Hand deliver your C4 Dana 60.
Don't really care about $.
Just help you install the 4-link.
Show me a few TIG Welding basics & tricks.
That Bobcat Miller sold fast.
Watching for Lincoln Rangers
What I want.
If you used & own it must be the best.
After Christmas I must buy a used Ranger Rig Welder.
Most can do the work we do.
Just takes time, patience, knowhow.
Its all here on your Forum.
Keep adding threads here.

Just measured .307" on the charging out lug.
Direct on threads with nut removed Rick.
Purchase a 5/16"(.3125") Solid Copper Lug terminal of your liking.
Will search local Monday for a nice CS130-CS144 Alternator field connection plug.
The pictured is just what I had around used.
Installed to spin test convienent.
