Truck advice.

One more problem.
A little while after we got the truck it started to have some kind of inconsistent knock"or i just noticed it late"(starting to think maby its normal diesel knock).
Well, an injector was leaking so i tough maby it was an injector sticking so replaced all 8 injector..
Now the knock is consistent and louder, it seem to be comming from underneath the truck around the flexplate area.
I think if it was an injector ticking that much it would smoke and would not run steady?
Video are on page 3 here:

Do you guy think its normal diesel knock or something is wrong?.

Sounded pretty normal to me, but I'm far from knowing much about how
a diesel should sound.

What would happen if some kid poured some gasoline in your tank, what
would it sound like then ? If the tank is not full, try filling up with some
good diesel and see if the noise changes.

Well we drove the truck for about 1000 miles now, did not get worst did not get better. Today i used a mechanic stethoscope on the intake, valve cover, timing cover, driver side head and block. lower exhaust, oil pan and side of pan rail, transmission, turbo, starter, any accessory and i could not hear any knocking anywhere so i take it as normal and not to worry.

Think its just the normal diesel engine knock/rattle at idle.

So do you think you will feel comfortable taking it on a long trip now ???

The recording you did sounded normal to me, but then I'm no diesel expert.

Well we did 3 trip of abour 3-4 hour drive at highway speed 70-75mph 2500 rpm already, gone outside the city twice and gone moose hunting past week-end, will be going hunting again this week-end and hopefully will get some meat to take back with me this time :).

I did drive 2 hour in the wild to go hunting i think i feel comfortable with it now.
I did order a serial(uart ttl level"for the aldl connector pin a and m") to usb module so i can scan the truck and check pump timing just for peace of mind.

Well, Not much tp update, but finally repaired the inner and outer rocker panel and cab corner on both side(still not painted, just epoxy primer right now, still have to do door lower/bottom and other stuff).
We where 2 but one doing nothing most of time, just there so i dont get bored. took about 4 afternoon per side.
all metal panel and weld, no fiberglass or body filler to fill holes and no rivets and screws
also replaced the driver side door hinge bushing and pin, lubed hinges and latches

Please tell me you bought the metal already shaped and then welded it in,
otherwise I'm going to have to do something serious!

No matter how you got it in there, that is one great piece of work
for someone not employed to do this work !

Great work Mathieu !

Don't do something serious,
the outer rocker panel and cab corner came already shaped, the inner rocker panel is hand made out of 20 gauge laminated.

I do think it is look pretty good, should last alot longer then what the previous owner did as repair, apparently they used metal screw and just added sheet metal over the rust, probably a part of why it rotted soo bad..

Not sure what you mean by inner rocker panel or laminated,
but it all looks great!

inner rocker panel, 1 image is worth 1000 word :D, try google image, inner rocker panel.
that will give you a better idea.
around here there is mainly 2 kind of sheet metal people are getting, there is laminated steel and galvanized steel. i use laminated steel sheet metal that is very strong and stay into shape very well(usually of thickess of 16 and 20 gauge), it is also slighly parkerized, so it dont rust on storage or if your not priming/painting any soon.

Googled the inner rocker panel, yes a picture was the best way to understand.

Never heard of the laminated steel before, is there a material ID number that you like to use?

Thanks ..... learned something today!
