Might ask for the best answers for my engine??
Like my pan is a new one for clearance for the BBC oil pump...I figured on using the bolt down rails on it.
And I do have the same blue one piece pan gasket, but I am confused as to do I use the rails and which sealer for the pan??
My engine is Iron block and Iron heads, with iron exhaust manifolds but a aluminum intake, and water pump.
I am somewhat aware of how things have changed, but an having a bit of information overload here.
As this is my only planed ever again engine build and I did it as NO ONE builds an engine my way...or did when I started it (there may be some now)....All future engines being stock if I need them will be junk yard replacements or crate built ready to go....which I have always done before, in my 59 years of cars I only rebuilt four engines:
A Studebaker 289 done by a friend while taking a trade School course in engine building swapping out the Packard 352 and it tired auto for a 3speed with OD in my 56 Golden Hawk.
A TR4 engine with wet sleeves, which vibrated ...out of balance...seemly.
A 68 VW 1600 Dual Port engine, which was a crate engine, short block and heads into my wife's VW in the mid 80s.
And this 383.
I swapped in good running engines bought from junk yards, my 68 Cougar XR7 needed more power and after wasting money on a high rise manifold and holly carb etc, I just swapped in a 351 Ford stock motor and gain tons of torque adn HP.
And before I discovered the Camero and the TPI, I was sick and tired of how SBC wore out valve guild, and their blocks I swapped in a OLDS 350 as they do not ware their blocks...And did build a OLDS 403 which I sold to switch back to SBC for the TPI, so I never ran it, the guy that bought it did say it ran great.
So this is the last one. I am too old to do another one.
