backup switch on 1996 LT4 6 speed

My backup lights don't work. Check the fuse, and it was good. I was going to check the switch, which I think is on the drivers side, by bypassing the switch, but could not get to it while lying on by back under the car. Any hints besides taking it to a dealer,or a lift. It is rather hard to reach. Thanks Larry

go to Sears and buy a deep-offset box wrench , that is the only tool that will remove it easily,
check the turn Back up 15 amp fuse(#28) with an ohmmeter. If is good, then check the backup switch on the transmission.
You can unplug the switch and jump the socket with the ignition swich in run mode and see if the backup lights turn on, when you jump the contacts. If they do, light up shorting the contacts, then the backup switch is in need of replacement. It is difficult to get to replace, but can be done, if your persistent and masochistic. It is located on the drivers side of the tranny, up high toward the front. Once you get it broken loose, you can spin it out with your fingers.

I have an LT-4 6 speed also with the same problem. I noticed one day the the left rear tail marker lamp had blown. I replaced that lamp and now my reverse lights work.
