I got a call from a buddy in Colorado, about 3 months ago, hes got an old Plymouth road runner with a 440 wedge, hes having a problem in that the cars battery goes dead because he only drives the car on clear sunny days when theres no snow or any other potential reason that might harm his precious dream car hes worked on to restore for the last 20 plus years. now thats a common problem I know I have it with my corvette because like his car it can sit a week or more between trips out on the road.
regular battery chargers tend to rapidly charge a battery but rapid changes, and significant differences in the charge tends to lower battery life expectancy
obviously the first step is locating the battery drain, and a multi meter , and pulling fuses can usually be used to locate the circuit thats got the low current drain thats killing the battery over time.

this car looks similar but his is sky blue
after talking with him it became obvious that the car can sit for a couple weeks between drives which along with the temperature swings in his garage are not ideal for battery life. now hes getting a bit tired of having to spend an hour charging the car or giving it a jump start to get it running, so I suggested a low amp battery minder its basically a low amp trickle charger, that turns itself on and off as it senses the battery condition.
well he called back last night to tell me he had bought a charger and installed it and to his amazement it seems to be working because he had not driven the car for two weeks and it started right up, which hes never had happen without a charge , or jump
