I got asked recently about the potential of the older 427 BBC and why would anyone bother, building a 427, when the larger displacement 454 and stroker versions like a 468, 489, 496 BBC can be built?
a 427 built with the correct components is a damn impressive engine, Ive built more than my share , and if you do the research before you start throwing cash into random parts youll see it has obvious potential.
now with todays technology , you can do things that were only wishful thinking back in the 1970s
and todays cylinder heads and cams are impressive and stand far above what was previously available.
what I'm suggesting is do extensive research, don,t throw a bunch of random, bargain priced parts at the project and expect great results!
the best large oval port aftermarket heads in the 265cc-315cc range with 2.3" intakes and 1.88 exhaust valves
and high compression ratios in the 10:1-13.6:1 range and roller or solid lifter cams that allow the engine to breath in the 3500 rpm-7600 rpm power band are all a good idea.
theres a great many useful links and sub links youll want to read through.
all over this web site!
like with almost anything else , do your research ,
match the drive train gearing to the application.
and use a good ignition, efficient fuel delivery system,
and a low restriction free flow exhaust system.
the heads selected and matching intake are critical
the AFR 300 cc oval port heads and a 4340 forged rotating assembly,
with decent after market SCAT connecting rods with 7/16" L19 rod bolts,
would be on my wish list
