now after reading thru the article in the may 2009 issue my first impression was they could have done better, but lets look at the build as its very useful as a reference.
the point of the article is that DART has several complete short block assemblies available, for those of us that want to avoid assembling our own.

the results were a combo with
415 peak hp at 5500rpm
and 430ft lbs of peak tq at 4200rpm
thats about 1.1 hp per cubic inch and its representative of what most comon engine build combos actually produce
yes I know we all have come to expect nothing less than 450 hp from a decent small block combo in a magazine dyno test, but in the real world
1.1-1.25 hp per cubic inch in flywheel numbers is realistic in a street drivable combo

where could they improve the combo?

well the first glaring difference in parts selection ID make would be the 180cc heads and the 230 durration cam, both could be increased to allow the 372 sbc to breath better
an ERSON solid lifter cam, like a E116420 254°/254° .562"/.562" 108° rather than a flat tappet hydralic
better heads
BRODIX 200cc IK heads and a HOLLEY INTAKE http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

would have been my selected components
(PROVIDED it was matched to a reasonable manual trans and 3.73-4.11 rear gear in a car weight of under 3500lbs and a low restriction exhaust and headers was used, those changes would easily boost the peak hp numbers up over into the 450hp plus range

BTW THEY ARE ALSO AVAILIABLE IN SOME BIG BLOCK CONFIGS[/color]
