got asked if you can remove a auto trans from a c4 without a lift or removing the engine?
yes you can pull the trans with just decent jack stands, you need to disconnect the drive shaft and shifter linkage and remove the aluminum beam between the trans and differential
you need to support the engine, and youll want to remove the distributor to prevent damage as the engines tipped to the rear
IVE used 4 of these stands (2nd lowest notch height, is at about 23" high,) to support and give the required clearance under the vette to do it several times on my 1985 corvette, yes its WELL WORTH THE PRICE TO BUY 4 12 TON JACK STANDS
typical 3 ton stands , most auto parts stores sell, next to two 12 ton jack stands
