Herculean Task: OMG I may be over doing it

Hello again.

So after a long time trying to get all my wild cats rounded up and herded, I am near ready to put it all together.

This is such a Herculean Task: OMG I may be over doing it

Finish assembly of the 383.

Remove original engine and tranmission.

Install 383 and 4L80e AND US Gear Dual Range Overdrive. 4L80e will need a modified or new motor mount.

Install new custom two-piece drive shaft (truck came with on piece)

Hook everything up including control system for engine, new 4L80e (truck came with 4L60e) and control system for Dual Range overdrive.

I also hope and plan on hooking up electric radiator fan.

So here is where I am very worried about:

I was planning on running an 87 Chevy TPI, which involves a modified PCM, hooking up 6 more injectors, figuring out all hook ups, rerouting the rear A/C hoses (running over the top of engine…) possible problem with compressor and belt system, and where and how to mount a cold air-air box for the air filter.

I fear to fire up a brand new (rebuilt) Engine, rebuild 4L80e, and NOS Tight Dual Range overdrive…on an untested jury rigged fuel injection system which may also need trouble shooting while trying to break all the rebuilt drive line.

I just think it is fool hardy to fire a brand new engine of an untested fuel system. I fear I have bitten off more than I can chew.

My request is can we run the engine dyno again with the stock Throttle Body Injection intake and system so I can see how much torque and ETC I stand to lose and at what RPMS.

simply break each task down to testing each sub component and system works as as intended as you proceed,
and fix those that may not, as you proceed and you'll be fine
break things into small bites,
a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step!

if you can find a knowledgeable and experienced local friend
join a local corvette or muscle car club,
try to make local friends at car shows or the local drag strip or oval track

getting started in the car hobby

Im 75 and look it!, I remember ALMOST all the mistakes I and FRIENDS MADE and what WORKED TOO! (plus I cheat I keep notes and records on ALMOST all of the engines and cars Ive built, or worked on! over 45 plus years.) Ive come bye most of the scars and info by experience and watching closely...

finding a machine shop

HOW to find a decent machine shop THATS SIMPLE, IN CONCEPT (but can be a P.I.T.A. in some locals) GO TO THE LOCAL DRAG STRIP with a PAD and pen,ask several obviously experienced race car owners, about the machine shops they avoid and those they recommend I don,t know about all areas but here in...

I have, note the list, the biggest unknown IS the fuel injection system.

A carb I can count on working...

The stock TBI, was working when the engine froze. I trust it to work again.

The TPI is a clobed together collection of parts, untested and unproven. Worst I will be trying a modification TO the PCM from a TBI To a Multipoint injection (2 to 8) and then hoping I get the correct tune installed and installed correctly...scary.

I wish I have a car with a good well broken in 350 (and somewhat expendable)in it that I could install the TPI and trouble shoot it and be sure it was ready to go.

I do not feel trying to get a unrun untested new rebuild to a possiable misfiring, or incorrectly fueling system.

as always a bit of research and trial & error testing with a few basic meters and gauges, goes a long way toward isolating the issues.
yeah it would be very useful if you were local, IE within a few miles so I or some other member could swing by and help, but you'll eventually get by this and in the process you'll gain skills & experience and maybe be forced into buying a few tools or gauges/meters etc in the process
start with the basics, as always check your getting fuel pressure, verified at about 40 psi, verify ignition spark at each spark plug and use the timing light to set the ignition advance, firing order 18436572
use NOID lights to verify injector pulse, set the plug gaps at about .042, change the oil and filter if its got over 6k miles
verify the trans fluid, brake fluid coolant and oil levels are correct
you might consider having the car up on 4 jack stands to make it far easier to detect fluid leaks

YOUR NOT DEALING WITH CUTTING EDGE TECH, EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS
KNOWLEDGE THAT'S DECADES OLD
a simple check list and a few hours of testing will get you in good shape :like:
