if you don't have fuel pressure in the fuel rail check the fuel pressure regulator
if your about to tear your hair out, in frustration, looking for the reason your vettes not running correctly,
its a good bet you don't like spending any time ,reading threads and watching videos or posting questions on the web site.

Long Start Or Crank Time On Early C4

My L98 became increasingly hard to start in the morning. It acted like it was starting in a lean condition. Once I got it going it would run fine for the rest of the day. Putting a fuel pressure gauge on it revealed that it only pumped up to 30 pounds when the key was turned to ignition. It...

Oil Pressure Sensor/switch, Reading Badly

Grumpy my 1985 corvette would not start, I eventually traced it eventually to a defective oil pressure sensor and switch, near the base of the HEI distributor, I only found your thread giving the OHMS levels to test the sensor, only after I found the problem by swapping out parts, that were...

PURCHASE THE SHOP MANUAL MATCHING YOUR YEAR CORVETTE

many of us, in the muscle car hobby,
started out with a performance car, like a corvette or a camaro,
we bought, that we were trying to restore or upgrade,
as a result, most of us are learning as we go ,
simply because we feel the need to get that ,
performance car, we bought,
that we were trying to restore or upgrade,
in running condition, or ideally for many of us,
in faster than in its original condition.
and yeah that eventually leads to the need for better brakes,
performance parts and a basic , ideally ever expanding,
knowledge of how the whole system functions

What a shame. With the relatively low resale value of the C4s in general, I can understand how this happens. This is where the economics change drastically for DIY, as long as parts are available and are not so expensive. I think it is the reason this site could flourish as more folks realize they can have a pretty great ride with a bit of effort and a will to learn.

For a car that apparently sat outside for 8 years of it’s life, it is hard to imagine that it’s paint would not have faded more than was evident, or it’s interior not infested by rodents. Certainly near the Florida coast, corrosion of wiring connections would not be unexpected, something I have learned a bit about.

yes I feel the C4 corvette is in many cases a huge bargain,
if you find one in low milage and in decent condition,
and surprisingly that's not impossible to do if you shop carefully.
If I have a preference, its the LT1 /LT4 1995-96 that is my preference ,but certainly the 1985-91 TPI versions'.
are less expensive and a bit easier to work on in my opinion

there are bargains to be had
shop carefully there are bargains available,
all information exists, parts while costly are available
for used C3 and c4 and even a few early C5 corvettes
don't take seriously its in perfect running condition, he's selling it for a reason!

and yeah EXPECT YOULL BE DOING NUMEROUS REPAIRS
and you might have a steep learning curve:like::swearing:
the good news is everything's available for corvettes at a PRICE
and yeah, hes got a sense of humor
if you own a corvette BUY THE PROPER YEAR SHOP MANUAL
AND A CODE READER AND MULTI METER

don't forget to replace ALL fluids and filters and the brakes,
on any new project car and for darn sure check the drive train and suspension,
shocks and tires belts and hoses, verify there's good brakes and brake fluid,
get the car aligned.
verify the signal, tail and head lights all work, verify the condition of the wheel studs , brake calipers , brake discs and pads, clutch etc.

btw the stock c4 fuel pumps suck. keep in mind most of those cars are 30 plus years old
and on many cars the use of ETHANOL LACED FUEL (especially if the car sits unused for weeks) RESULTS IN RUST IN THE FUEL TANKS AND CRUD IN THE INJECTORS

yes it takes some time and effort to watch the videos, and read through links and sub links
yes you need a fuel rail pressure tester, a multi meter , code reader and a shop manual
and it sure helps to consult related threads

but if you do you'll be amazed at how often you'll be working on a corvette,
and think back to something you almost ignored,
until you remember a video you watched in the past that jogs your memory

yes the early louver covers are marginally more restrictive than the later covers but its not that difficult to upgrade to the later cover with threaded inserts

btw, cutting the top cover louvers off the cover on the air filter covers like this

shopping

is a total a waste of time and effort, and it degrades resale value to knowledgable buyers,
the stock louvered cover in its original form already flows far more air more than the maf sensor flows

shopping

this video above, brought a smile and reminded me of a dozen memories
(mostly about my c3 BBC 496 corvette at the track in hollywood fla)
but no sane person drives like this on the street

this video below just reminded me there's a bunch of idiots who have more money to buy fast cars
than they have brains or respect for safe driving conditions

anyone driving like this on the highway needs a few very expensive tickets at a minimum
