if youve ever needed to change a clutch in a c3 corvette, your sure to have run into the issue of having very limited access to the room under the corvette required to slide the transmission back far enough to get the required clearance.
the stock cars frame does not have a removable cross member but anyone with a bit of fabrication skills can either modify the existing cross member or replace it with either an after market version ,
or fabricate one to match the way they envision the cars exhaust clearance works best.
the stock transmission cross member requires you to unbolt the shifter and linkage to slide the transmission back far enough to remove the bell housing and clutch, swapping to a removable cross member if its correctly designed makes a clutch replacement far faster and easier, you might also consider upgrading to a full length 3" exhaust under the car or side pipes, as either has the potential to provide a significant power boost

I know several guys that have modified the cross member to make it both easily removable and modified it so the cross members exhaust pipe passage diameter was significantly larger in diameter , too allow a 3" exhaust pipe full length dual exhaust
