OMG

holy shit.... first of all... what a fucking idiot... secondly, how did that even happen?

its called a HANGFIRE its when the primer smolders for a brief time before igniting, after its hit by the firing pin, its frequently the result of penetrating oil contamination on the primer compound ,you should never get ammo covered in any spray oil, get the ammo soaked with some penetrating oils and it slows the ignition or renders the primer inert.
if your in the habit of spraying your gun down to prevent rust instead of proper dis-assembly cleaning and re-assembly it can and does happen, rarely with some products

never heard of that, thanks grumpy. im the proper disassembly and cleaning type myself but now i know incase i see this happening in the future. thats wild.

I specifically practice for hangfires every time I shoot.

Every Sunday, I take a Tupperware box of 50 x 9mm + 4 snapcaps to the range. I load the magazines blindly, randomly adding the snapcaps to the mix.

This does two things for me: First, it shows me if I'm not following through correctly. Indeed, the random snapcap reveals very quickly if you are burying the muzzle or keeping steady when the trigger breaks. Second, you cannot assume that the failure was a snapcap... it might actually be a hangfire. So every time I get a fail, I keep the gun pointed down range and count 30. Then eject. Verify it's a snapcap - if it is a true fail, toss it in the steel red bin specifically for these. Eeeek! I hate those!!!

I find that practicing to deal with hangfires using snapcaps makes you more aware of where the muzzle is pointing. I find that if you are not careful, when a round fails you can easily drift into negligence... very bad! Forexample, when you verify that it is a snapcap after ejecting: finger off ze trigger and be aware of muzzle.

yea i just manual cycle and keep shooting, ive never had or seen have this incident... guess i gotta be more careful next time i get a FTF lest i lay a live one on the ground and it cooks off blasting me or someone else with a hot piece of brass
