over the years Ive seen a great number of guys with muscle cars , corvettes and hot rods, etc. that they wanted to work on , needed advise,or have me work on, and overheard enough requests that its made me aware that a small percentage of the guys in this sport, seem to be TOTALLY CLUELESS

feel free to add your own intellectual JEMS

heres some real statements

"can I re-use the old pistons and rods with new rings after you bore the block .030 over, I don,t really have, the cash to buy new pistons ?"

" I installed a 160F T-stat but the engine still runs at 200F just like it did with the 190f t-stat, whats wrong?"

" after you port the heads, can you adjust the rockers so I won,t have to do that when I install the heads?"

"can you port the heads for me and re-install them, by 7pm, Ive got to get back to work, Ill wait?" (it was 1pm)

"If I buy a new cam, and lifters can you break them in so I won,t need to do that when I install them?"

"the vibration can,t be the tires I swapped those around and it still vibrates after 60mph"

"the engine won,t start, and I made sure the distributor went back in and the rotor pointed exactly where it did when I pulled it out before I installed the new cam, so I don,t need to verify the timing"

"the engine was leaking oil so I put a can of stop-leak in the oil and now the engine smokes"

"I adjusted the rockers and the engine won,t start, I know its right because the rocker nuts as far down as it will go, and I torqued them to 55lbs like the manual said"


"yes I know you said the cam lobes worn flat,and the lifters shot, just install a new lifter because I can,t afford a new cam and I need the car back running correctly today"

"I could not get those little brass rods in the carburetor back into those holes under those light bulb shaped covers so I just used dikes and snipped off the lower end so they fit and now the cars exhaust smokes, do you think that might be related?"

" bought this MSD ignition at the swap meet, for $20 and I can,t get it to work, the guy I bought it from assured me it works so what did I wire wrong? ( suggesting testing per MSD specs, was ignored)
