Trans Gaskets

If you have found torque specs , on any component we are missing,
you can post , what we are missing,
(especially with pictures and references if you can)
please do so!

the thread reminds me of a buddy who built a very impressive looking T-bucket with a 392 hemi engine, but he failed to take every factor
in the build really seriously , and think things through carefully,
and once it was completed, in original configuration, if he and a buddy sat in the seats,
he had only about 2"=to 2.3" of ground to oil pan clearance
he had to do some rather serious mods to the suspension and brakes etc, to get a reasonable 4" of ground clearance,
that allowed the car to exit the gated community he lived in even driving only 5-7 mph due to the insane speed bumps ,
at every intersection and about every 1/8th mile in the development.
he had a custom road race oil pan that was as shallow as the engine rotating assembly and oil pump allowed so he had to swap to larger wheels & tires and change the suspension.

I drove the Pontiac all over Chicago never an issue till the Ex Boss put in a speed bump strip.
Moroso pan used 2004-2020.

With the trunk floor cutout and stock gas tank gone the Pontiac is at least 200 lbs lighter in back now.
Sits like a GTO back in the day Race ready.
16 gallons in fuel cell still sits higher.

As always - thank you Brian! I ordered that gasket, expected for next Monday. That last gasket cost over $34. I don’t mind spending some money, as long as it works when I follow all the right procedures.

They’re strict there. Jersey, PA and Del. If you document your proficiency in a trade you may be invited to fill an instructional position at any public vocational school. One of my better friend’s son is 18, maybe 19 by now and he teaches Welding at a commercial tech school in North Carolina.

Illinois sucks today.
If it was not for my Farmhouse jumping ship to Texas because done deal.

Just for curiosity sake, what is the maximum torque you can apply to the TH400 transmission bolts with a factory pan?
I used a machinist’s true steel straight edge on the case, made sure surface was absolutely clean. Checked the factory pan on a polished flat granite top, tried to slip a sheet of paper under all around and it was flat to the stone. Again the pan mating surface was clean and scratch free.
I was very careful with the gradual tightening of the bolts to avoid distorting the pan, cris-crossing the tightening pattern with 5 ft lb increases going through the pattern until I reached the recommended torque by GM. And it still leaks! I was going to let a shop do it until they quoted a price of $375. I’m tempted to used ATV sealant and be done with it!
