what do YOU DO when you screw up something during the engine OR DRIVE TRAIN assembly process?

look, its a fact! no one is nearly perfect and we ALL screw up, we all, forget things or just don't pay attention to all the details!
in an ideal world, once you find evidence you screwed something up, or you ignored something, you should have or paid a great deal more attention to,
you stop, back-up, find out what you did wrong and start over and correct the process or replace the part we damaged ,
or do what ever the assembly process now requires, and if your smart you take the time and effort to both document the mistake ,
and what ever action, or machine work or parts that need to be replaced modified or repaired as a result of your mistake!
I know I made hundreds of less than brilliant decisions over the decades,
BUT I LEARNED TO NEVER REPEAT DUMB MISTAKES
but you are forced over time to realize than its really faster and cheaper in the long run,
to stop, and correct things vs plod on in the obviously mistaken belief that , no one will notice, or it will probably be OK,
when you know all too well that its going to cost you big time eventually!
this lesson is ALL TO OBVIOUSLY IGNORED BY SOME PEOPLE:thinking::swearing::sad:

one reason I bring this up, is I was asked to help on a neighbors car, that he recently purchased at an estate sale
I WAS TOLD HE WAS HAVING TROUBLE ON A CLUTCH REMOVAL ON A 1974 CORVETTE, THE BELL HOUSING WOULD NOT COME LOOSE,
BECAUSE SOME PREVIOUS PERSON HAD TACK WELDED A BELL HOUSING BOLT HEAD TO THE BELL HOUSING, WELL,
THAT WAS CORRECTED WITH SOME DREMEL , CUT OFF TOOL TIME,
BUT THE REASON THE PREVIOUS GENIUS HAD WELDED THE BOLT TO THE BELL HOUSING WAS THE THREADS IN THE BLOCK WE TOTALLY STRIPPED,
SO WITH OUT THE BOLT HEAD WELDED, TO THE STEEL BLOW PROOF BELL HOUSING THE BOLT WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT, WHY NO HELICOIL, THATS EASY, THE BOLT HOLE WAS PARTLY FILLED WITH A SHEARED OF SECTION OF BOLT, LEAVING ONLY ABOUT 3/8" OF STRIPPED THREADS ABOVE IT IN THE BOLT HOLE IN THE BLOCK, AND RATHER THAN USE A DRILL AND EASY-OUT,THE BROKEN BIT OF BOLT THAT REMAINED , THE GENIUS HAD LEFT IT IN PLACE, BUT USED EPOXY AROUND THE SHORT STRIPPED BOLT

AND A GOOD DEAL OF EPOXY ON THE BELL HOUSING TO BLOCK CONTACT AREA! :swearing:
NOW WE GET THE CLONE OF THE LAKEWOOD BLOW PROOF BELL HOUSING OFF,
AND THE CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE AND DISC ARE TRASH, AND ONE OF THE PRESSURE PLATE BOLTS IN THE FLYWHEEL IS OBVIOUSLY NOT LIKE THE OTHERS,
IT IS A LARGER METRIC THREAD ,
THIS GENIOUS OBVIOUSL USED TO SECURE THE PRESSURE PLATE TO THE FLYWHEEN WHEN HE STRIPPED THE ORIGINAL HOLE.

YEAH WE EVENTUIALLY GOT THINGS APART AND I WELDED UP AND RE-DRILLED AND RETAPPED THE FLYWHEEL.
BTW, COTTER PINS ARE CHEAP, AND DESIGNED AS A SINGLE USE THEN REPLACEMENT PART. BENT COAT HANGERS ARE NOT A DECENT REPLACEMENT,

and that clutch pivot is not supposed to be welded to the inside of the bell housing, that allen key socked in its base is there for a reason

there are some people that just don,t understand the idea of
if your not sure ASK QUESTIONS, think things through!

and if you screw up.. stop... fix it before you proceed!
