If you take a rubber sanding block and use 400-600 grit wet and dry sandpaper it will remove all scratches and look new or better than new.

I will try it when I'm finished the porting work. I also have to clean the whole intake on the carb side and block the water outlet to the choke

Works great.
Safer than using those Roloc cleaning wheels. Gasket surfaces stay True and flat in all planes using a Flat rubber sanding block & 400-600.
Been prepping cleaning that way for over 20 years.
No leaks ever.
No comebacks.
