1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought Home

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

I prepped the '71 GTO Block a few nights ago.
Deburred casting flash in lifter gallery.
Deburred outside of block.
Removed Freeze frost plugs.
Removed oil gallery line plugs.
5/16" Square drive 3/8" pipe plugs are terrible to remove from an original Pontiac V8 at times.
2 were stuck froze up. Got them all out. No damage.
Block is excellent shape.
No heavy corrosion in block water jackets.
Clean inside.
Knock the cam bearings out with my Snap On Cam bearing remover-installer.
Power wash again good.
Ready for my Machine shop.

Happy with my Purchase & Choice. 455 Poncho Power.

That Shit Sucks Phil.
My Highschool friend has Bronchitus.
Hot humid weather aggravates it.
Was supposed to 90 F today.
Rained last night into early morning. Cooled off.
About 75F and humidity not too bad right now.
Fall is around corner here in the Midwest.
Best time to turn wrenches & build an engine & install into a Hotrod.
Have to get to the Dragstrips at least once this year.
Byron Outlaw Wheelie Contest coming up too.
20 th year running. Can't miss it. Must be in person for me to Witness all again.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

The 455 block prep work is almost done.
All bolt thread holes tapped clean.
Tapped the Front Oil Galleries for 3/8"-18Tpi Pipe plugs.
Tapped deep so the 3/8" stainless steel pipe plugs sit nearly flush on front face of block behind Camshaft timing sprocket.
Eliminates the factory 3/8 " soft plugs that can sometimes pop out with Oil pressures 60psi -130 psi Hot.
Few more details & I will Power wash clean. Ready for machine shop.

Cleaned the Long Branch Factory exhaust mainfolds I have today.
Down to silver cast iron. Spotless clean.
Also cleaned the Lifter Valley pan tray clean to bare metal.
Paint the exhaust manifolds High Temp Silver. No extra $ For Jet Hot Coating.
Will still look nice & be durable.
Not the Typical Log exhaust manifolds.
But Mini headers almost. Nice even internal cross sections & No exhaust choke points.
High flow factory Pontiac Exhaust manifolds
Won't leak like headers do eventual on street use longterm.

Working on the Cylinder heads this week.
Converting to screw in studs.
Have the special ARP Pontiac V8 only Rocker studs to get the job done right.
Spendung at least 1-2 hours daily on the project.

I don't think he has ever seen these I posted in past.
Enough to build 2 real nice 455 Ponchos, Street (4340 Drop Forged Steel) & all out Race (Titanium).

I love my old 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The dusty one.

The other is my old 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix.
A friend has it now.
Unfinished project. 428 Pontiac alcohol injected belt drive fuel pump with Edelbrock heads.
Dynoed around 760 HP on an alcohol carb.
I modified the headers myself from a GTO to work for him.
Sorry no header pics. But it was a real PIA job. Grumpy be proud.
