Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought
Ive generally posted engine combos that I have either built or have seen others build that I know can usually be trusted to tell you pretty much what actually went into the build and the true results.
yes you can build a killer engine with 1000hp plus and I don,t think it would be very difficult given todays parts availability to assemble a 1200hp-1400 twin turbo combo on a DART TALL DECK BLOCK,ans build a 540-598 displacement engine that runs with an inter-cooler and the twin turbos that could put out silly power levels, in fact if I had a semi unlimited check book balance to work with it would be laughably easy to do!
the fact is that most of us can,t afford to buy a HELLCAT, or its engine, so most of us are limited to buying used older cars and working with refurbished components due to limited budgets.
I,d also point out that POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO has a great deal to do with performance and a lighter weight car like a cobra clone or Ricks t-bucket if properly set up even with a N/A big block engine in the 468-540 displacement range, set up to run race octane fuel can easily produce 700hp or more.
that HELLCAT weights about 4500 lbs and even with 825hp thats an impressive but hardly unmatchable power to weight ratio of about 5.5 lb per hp, Ricks t-bucket should have close to 480hp from a rather mild sbc thats built and designed for durability not racing, and he states the car weights about 2000lbs , thats a power to weight ratio of about 4.2 lb per hp, simply swapping in a more race oriented sbc design combo with a new cam and intake that could easily be done that made an extra 70hp would increase his power to weight ratio to 3.63 lbs per hp, which in theory could easily out run the hellcat and surely out turn and out brake it due to the lower weight advantage if the suspension and tires are properly set up.
Ive built lots of PONTIAC engines over the years also,if you remember, edelbrock built a rather impressive Pontiac engine a few years ago to showcase the new cylinder heads
