How was your first day?

I,m sure your asking about 87vette81big first day,Brian I hope you have a good first few days.

but I sure remember my first day at the CHEVY DEALER SHIP, and I know how I learned to fit in there AND at AT&T,
I learned early theres a simple secret to fitting in, its offering to actually WORK,vs trying to get by and collect a pay check for standing around !
I found that like most jobs the older guys tend to look at the new guy as a resident moron UNTIL you prove differently, and show your not only willing to work but really want to learn!
and you start by offering too help do any and everything that needs doing, and that usually starts with cleaning obviously messy areas ,without being told to do so and asking permission first, to clean tools, or, arrange stock, or help on jobs, showing some initiative helps and offering to do the less enjoyable jobs just to learn new skills sure helps break the ice.
NEVER act like you know more than the older guys (even if you do!) but be willing to jump in and help, and if you do happen too know something, do it, and let them see, rather than tell them! and be sure to thank anyone willing to teach you new skills
I know what mean Grumpy, I had a young fella not long ago was just that way, always knowing but didn't have the initiative to jump in and do it. Frustrating to be teaching somone that always knows more than you do. All Talk and no action!

Good Luck on the new job Brian!

I am Master Mechanic Guys. And a Diesel mechanic too.
Anytime you want to bring back the Good Old Days before Bam go right ahead.
I miss bringing home 1000-1200 paychecks after taxes weekly.
I am. that good of a mechanic.
I sweep floors for no one.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Also Grumpy we are about ready to witness that 707 Hellcat Supercharged Hemi that actually has 825 Hp at the Flywheel just Decimate the Corvette world Street Racing and Drag Racing.
Out of all Your combos you have only the 496 with potential.

I WILL DO IT WITH PONTIAC V8 POWER.
ARNIE BESWICK DID TOO.
ONLY THE PONTIAC V8 YOU CAN USE THE STOCK BLOCK & CRANK AT POWER LEVELS REQUIRED TO WIN AGAINST THE HELLCAT.

Turbo Phil way has Potential to Win Too.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Ive generally posted engine combos that I have either built or have seen others build that I know can usually be trusted to tell you pretty much what actually went into the build and the true results.
yes you can build a killer engine with 1000hp plus and I don,t think it would be very difficult given todays parts availability to assemble a 1200hp-1400 twin turbo combo on a DART TALL DECK BLOCK,ans build a 540-598 displacement engine that runs with an inter-cooler and the twin turbos that could put out silly power levels, in fact if I had a semi unlimited check book balance to work with it would be laughably easy to do!
the fact is that most of us can,t afford to buy a HELLCAT, or its engine, so most of us are limited to buying used older cars and working with refurbished components due to limited budgets.
I,d also point out that POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO has a great deal to do with performance and a lighter weight car like a cobra clone or Ricks t-bucket if properly set up even with a N/A big block engine in the 468-540 displacement range, set up to run race octane fuel can easily produce 700hp or more.
that HELLCAT weights about 4500 lbs and even with 825hp thats an impressive but hardly unmatchable power to weight ratio of about 5.5 lb per hp, Ricks t-bucket should have close to 480hp from a rather mild sbc thats built and designed for durability not racing, and he states the car weights about 2000lbs , thats a power to weight ratio of about 4.2 lb per hp, simply swapping in a more race oriented sbc design combo with a new cam and intake that could easily be done that made an extra 70hp would increase his power to weight ratio to 3.63 lbs per hp, which in theory could easily out run the hellcat and surely out turn and out brake it due to the lower weight advantage if the suspension and tires are properly set up.
Ive built lots of PONTIAC engines over the years also,if you remember, edelbrock built a rather impressive Pontiac engine a few years ago to showcase the new cylinder heads

There is no way the Hellcat weighs 4500lbs Grumpy.
My 1994 K1500 Suburban weighs 6,032 lbs with 40 gallins of gas in the tank.
Extra 200-lbs in tools typically carried around.
Weighed it twice on CAT Certified scales.
My 63 GP is 4,032.
Not too hard to figure out Dodge us lieing about weight as the HP.
707 & 4500 A spoof to mess with Chevy & C7 Z06 Corvette.
Old Pontiac Trickery used by Mopar.

I want 800-900 hp.
No Less.

I don't understand why your so afraid of doing what it takes to WIN RACES GRUMPY.
EVERONE DOES IT HERE IN ILLINOIS.

dodge published the spec chart originally not me, throw in a full tank of gas and a driver and theres no way its not 4500 lbs, if they are telling the truth about the cars weight
hellcatspecs.png

and Im hardly reluctant to race, just rather strapped for the funds required to do so effectively.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Its going to take a Power Adder Grumpy.
Unaffordable Normally aspirated.
Supercharged.
Turbo(s).
Nitrous oxide .
Nitromethane.

Choose your weapon.

I haven't seen the C7 Z06 & Hellcat Street Race to 200mph.
Or Drag Race at the track against each other.
People can claim stock whatever. If I am not there watching all or documemted photographed .
Its Bullshit Phil.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Fact is only a Pontiac 455 block & crank is strong enough as factory made to take on The Hellcat 825-900Hp.
Pushed to 1600 Hp by a few.
Can't do that with any stock SBC OR BBC.
CAN BUT IT WILL LIKELY FAIL SOON.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

I just bought 2" inch primary header tubes with 3-1/2" collectors.
Hooker Super Comps for the Pontiac V8 Phil.
Brand new. Non Jet hot coated but can do that this winter.
Didn't cost $2k.
Awesome deal like my other 2 1971 GTO 455's shown here on my thread.

Its Getting Polluted with Fuck Bullshit.
Better of Realize I am doing what I want .
Not what others want.

Being behind the Hellcat Racing means You Lost the Race.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

It looks like the 1963 Pontiac Super Hydramatic 4-speed Automatic trans I have is Very Valuable today Phil.
Super hard to find.
Mine had the Correct flywheel and Dust covers & Dipstick oil fill tube.
Worth at least $1k as is.
Rebuilt could bring $2500.00.

Oldsmobile used same trans but called the Jetaway 4-speed Auto they used behind the 394 Ci Olds Big Blocks.

Bellhousing different from Pontiac & Olds in those years.

Fun researching Vintage parts I have.
Worth $$$$$.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

The Ford 460 Big Block is like the Pontiac 455 Phil.
The stock 460 Block and heads can ptake huge amounts of HP and Torque.
900-1000Hp at least.
My bud Ed with his low 8-second 5.0 306ci Vortech YSi Stang says the stick 5.0 block and crank good for 500-550Hp safe.
He has a Ford Motorsport Race block good for 2000Hp.

Hard to believe but the 5.0 Ford & Pontiac Guy

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Hard to believe but the Ford 5.0 Crowd & a Pontiac 455 guy has to save the Corvette from decimation and possible extinction from The Hellcat.
