Big bumpers forever in CA :)

Erik, just a thought here. I like an updated look to the call out decals on the '74 Z28 hood if you took the 3 layer design of the 1980/81 Z28 and applied it light silver to dark charcoal (or light gray to black)
It's like Chip Foose does, makes subtle changes that look like they could have been born that way from the factory.
Rich - do you have a picture of what you are talking about? Are you talking about a fade in the black stripes of the 74 decals?

Don't worry Erik, it's not a big deal. My build thread is now about the car as a
whole and not just the engine.

You will be surprised if you keep up with it, the details in your thread will be
better than your own personal documentation. I've saved my thread as a pdf
so that I have it no matter what happens to this forum. I would dearly hate to
loose all the info contained in my thread.

I don't have any pictures, no do I have the talent to mock up what I'm talking about.
Yes, the closest way to explain would be a fade in to Black or use a contrasting color like grey, charcoal, silver or gold. Even a graduation of a different "Tone" or "Value" of the Red used on the body. Use both like Chevy did or spray to fade (not using a taped, even line to divide colors). Color "Tones" would be as an example all Reds that are Orange in nature or Reds that have Blue - what am I doing? you guys know better than me what I'm talking about.

No, but in the meantime I will search. I think Ford had something like this on a late 70's Mustang Cobra

The Big Bumper 2 nd Gen Camaros I do recall from the 1970's & 1990's.
They drove nice.
A few around here had Big Block Chevies 427-454 transplanted.
Everyone wanted a Muncie 4-speed car.
A friend had a 1970-1/2 Camaro split bumper. Green metallic paint. Black Vinyl top.
350 LT-1. Turbo 400 Transmission .
3.73 Gears in the 12-Bolt & Positraction.
It was very fast on the street.
He drove it daily for 11 years.
Eventually it rotted away.
Sold many times afterwards .
Eventually parted out.
A shame.
Street raced all including me in my 1970-1/2 Trans Am.

I also recall the early 2 nd gen Camaros were Faster on the street than the 1st Gen Camaro with Factory SBC & Stock Run of the Mill BBC .

The 2nd gen Camaros with the Lt-1 were faster than the 396 1969 Camaros and the 2nd gen 396 that were really 402 motors. The 1st gen Camaros in stock form didn't feel safe at high speeds.

Thes are some "ideas" - one for contrasting light to dark greys and the other is a silver tone that looks metallic

image.jpeg image.jpeg Base color to black. The new solid color fade proof vinyls are one to think about that in the end is less cost, easy to change and looks great too

I am remembering back to 1990-1992 Richard.
Many Friends had the Rubber bumper Camaros & Z28's.
Base Camaro & LT Cars. Berlinatas also.
The 1978 Camaro with the 305 ci Chevy V8 & 2-bbl. A friend had one.
Silver with Black interior. Nice car.
Was a clean example .
It had a Peg Leg 10-bolt No Posi.
2.41 gears with a Turbo 350 Transmission.
Not that exciting on paper the stats.
But it Ran Great.
He drove it hard often.
The little 305 Chevy V8 never blew up.
It would burn the Right rear tire off for 2-3 city blocks.
With the tall rear diff gearing you could bury the Speedo on the highway for hours.
Pontiac Trans Ams with 455's back then were hard to find.

One thing that is different in my plan is that I am planning on using metallic black and possibly a tri-coat metallic white instead of the plain colors they used in '74. That makes it hard to do in vinyl.

Yeah, those mid 70's+ 2nd gens seemed to be faster than they were spec'ed to be. My mom's 81 T/A had a 305 and 4 speed. That thing was rated at 150 hp :) but it was a blast to drive. That thing sure felt fast.

It was about 1993 and was hoarding Pontiac parts NOS I bought right from local GM Dealership.
Camaros and Trans Ams filled my local salvage yards. Parts for the picking cheap.
The Pro Street era ended and Fast Musclecars were being turned into all out Drag Cars.
Most were kinda broke my age.
I had a decent paying job about $8.50-9.00 per hour.
2 ng Gen F bodies were affordable and I like the styling and how they handled.
So I started buying old magazines from Swap meets.
I recall reading a Built prepped Big Bumper Camaro that ran Luguna Seca.
140 mph +. I seem to recall it had a Smokey Yunick built SBC.
To read in your 20's Found Lost History was A Thriller.

Most likely the gearing gave us that "by the seat of your pants" feel of speed. I spent a lot on gas back then for my 80 4spd. 350 just to see and hear the flaps open up on the reverse hood scoop when the secondaries opened.
Having a date out for a cruise in that new car got me to second base and beyond on many an occasion.

We used to have book shops that sold all the out of date mags from the retailers at deep discounts. Even before I was old enough to drive, old Car Craft mags, my favorite, sold for 0.35, comics were 10 for a buck. After that I could only find them at flea markets, now on eBay and too much now.

I find many Ebay deals in Florida where Grumpy is.
And Lately in Pennsylvania .
Zero issues.

Things seem a little slow Richard.
I think all eyes are on the 2016 Presidential election .
Should pick up in June.
Hot Summertime weather brings car guys out.
To Forums for help.
Gonna Snoop around other Forums.
Don't forget Mothers Day !
