just want some reassurance on combo choices

.004 or .006 is supposed to be closer to reality, but the .050 timing eliminates most of the acceleration ramps
on a roller cam the acceleration ramp timing is not nearly as wildly varied as on flat tappet cams

One more to go.
Dinner time.

The Results are not what I expected at all.
What we're you thinking. Those cranes look pretty good. I'm curious about the dual vs single plane. These cams really shine with single planes. I'd really like to to use the EFI kit and give it a whirl. Not sure what the vacuum readings will be on the cranes or isky. The Straub cam has sufficient vacuum per him to run the EFI and power brakes. Curious as to why the advertised is so different from the 0.050 events. Does anyone know what manifold vacuum readings Rick had with that Crower? I can't recall off hand

No.
Grumpy is the Master of Winning The Horsepower Race.
Crane usually Wins.

Isky Won.

In the past Pontiac Street Race World a Similar cammed 230-240 @.050"
400 & 455 was often used a comparison.
Actual track testing.
Often the smaller 400 ci Won.
Lower torque down low so it could hook up clean.
455 has greater overall power.
Much stronger torque band.
It's deceiving how powerful till you drive a good 455 Ponch.

But I along with a few others found if use a hotter cam not by a huge amount you can kill some bottom end torque.
Hook up more easily.
Especially on the Street on dirty dusty roads.
Street tires.
Top end punch there.

What I see the Isky 272/282 doing with this 400 Small Block Chevy.

I can tell you this also 1st hand.
You put a 9-second drag car on the street.
Race on a 2 lane blacktop.
Each do a healthy burn out as long as they wish.
The 9 second car will be lucky to actually pull off a clean 12 second pass.

How I won with my Ta.
Ran slower at track.
I could hookup.
Rip through gears powershifting the Muncie 4.
Let the 455 ponch pull.

I wish I had all these grinds and could actually bolt them up on the Dyno and swap parts out over the course of a few days. I agree with you on the hooking. Keep in mind I'm not racing this car. That's what the orange 69 camaro I have is for. This is a street cruiser, show out, blow tires off. Don't really care to hook in this car. It's not built to hook. The orange car has a tube frame, this car is stock unibody. It's still solid, no cracks in the quarters from twisting yet. I have owned a good bit of these cars. Some I wanted to hook, some I didn't. I'm trying to get a solid combo with a higher first gear, higher rear ratio, street tires, sound mean, and cruise the streets. Not trying to milk out every hp with this one, trying to be reliable, torquey, fun to drive, not burn my clutch up with that 2.20 first gear, run power brakes and the EFI. When I redo the 505 in the orange car this winter I'm going for every hp. Its tubbed, built to hook, m23z autogear tranny, 9" Ford with 35 spline axles and a full tube frame.

Everyone has an opinion.

The Isky 272/282 is a Winner to me.
It's not enough torque tear the Unibody Camaro in half.
Adequate torque to get moving.
Hookup fast if you desire to.
Cam specs are mild.
Have decent Sound.
Will fry melt the tires into Peak torque and into Hp band fast.
Be 100 % reliable.
No fancy parts hardware required.
Crappy small tube headers will work.
Big tubes Ok.

I have Doug's headers. 1.75" tubes. 3" collector. None of these cams really require fancy parts.

Pick your Poison as I like to say.

I like the Isky.

Many National Records were set in the 1970s & 1980s By Pontiac V8 Guys using CRANE CAMS.
MOST FAMOUS IS JIM BUTLER.

Total surprise tonight Isky Won again.

Isky RR 272/282 cam with 1.6 :1 Ratio Rocker Arms.

Everything is Apples to Apples now.
566 Hp all in by 6500 Rpms.
488 ft/lbs @ 5500 rpms.

3000 -3500 rpms torque is 360 -386.
About where you want to rev an engine to with a Muncie 4 speed when ready for street action from a dead stop.
Slip the clutch. Feel it hookup grip the rear tires.
Drop the Hammer gas pedal & do not lift for anything.
Bang the Gears 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 at 6000- 6500 rpms.
Win.

So that's with the .004" specs? Looks impressive. Still don't know why the .050 numbers are so drastically different. We don't have advertised numbers for all the cams do we?

The isky does look very good, and that crane made 571hp with advertised specs
These 400 SBC engines with Brodix 18 X heads or Canfields 15 degree heads are infamous for making 700-750 HP on Race Gas in Dirt track cars.
Guys better off run Full Titanium valves.
Shaft Rocker arms.
Make them 100 % reliable.
Best are dry sumped.

After street performance on pump gas with old school affordable hardware.

18X ,15 degree heads, & Brodix 12 require custom built headers for GM Platforms.
Labor time to fabricate 50-200 hours.
Shop rate $100-200 per hour puts out of most guys reach.
