MSD 6AL2 programmable dead

The Tangerine Tornado 400sbc Procharged is much cooler than a run of the mill Mustang.
Unless its a 8- second ET Renegade 5.0 Mustang racing down the track. Dead nuts even draw down then.

Likely call You back Dorian, the Movie producer - Director.

Right, I read this on yellowbullet. Rather than getting a 64.5 inch 12-rib belt, two 6 rib belts should work + cheaper and easier to come by (ie - available at Summit)

Unless someone thinks that's a very bad idea... I'll be ordering two of these:

Im looking forward, to seeing if you can actually use twin 6 rib belts to replace a single 12 rib belt,

it seems like it may work but theres always a chance that the rib spacing will be significantly different between the belts, just like thread pitch on bolts theres bound to be various rib spacing changes
example, lets pick random figures
lets say a 6 rib belt is 24mm wide and has a rib centered ever 4mm
lets assume a 12 rib belt is 60mm wide and has ribs spaced at 5mm?
I know you can see the potential issues, which may or may not exist.

BTW a GILMER BELT is better for power transmission

New Era Racecraft was selling them to me at $80! And I'll bet that's a MSRP.

At that saving, I'm willing to take a shot at it. The guy on yellow bullet had been running two belts "for years" with his procharger...

As long as the 2 - 6 rib belts are exact same length, should work Dorian.
Everything has gotten expensive.
Typical 5 or 6 rib belt sells for $30 to $50.00 my cost- mechanics discount from my local auto parts stores.
If you can find a wholesaler that stocks only belts , he can sell a 12 rib belt below $80 for your Procharger.
I search & search on ebaY- Fleebay.
9 out 10 I find what I need.

Assembling the CS144 tonight.
Too much going on over Easter weekend to complete.

Dead that is... the MSD

Sooo, here I am stuck with a brand new MSD in the box. Great!

I pulled out the new MSD and bench tested it. Turns out it was giving the same error code... or so I thought! When you give it power + ignition, the red LED should light and stay lit and not flash twice and turn off. Or so the MSD tech said when I spoke to him.

The new MSD box was giving me more of the same: two flashes and then off.

Turns out, yes the MSD LED should stay lit but only AFTER the distributor gives at least one signal to spark by closing the circuit... THEN the LED stays lit and flashes every time the distributor closes the circuit, i.e. 8 times per revolution = 8 flashes.

Soooo, I traced the problem down to a loose pin inside the weather proof connector. That was leading to erratic signals and finally no signal => no ignition.

I suppose it was my fault... still the MSD tech could have mentioned it was NORMAL for the LED to flash twice and go off when you give the box power.

Grmbl... on ebay it goes.

Still, I think it is a good idea to put in a true HD alternator.

Grmbl.

It will be shipped out the beginning of the work week Dorian.
Your CS144 alternator I built for you.

Always a good idea to have 2 MSD ignition boxes on hand. That way you have a spare always.
They can and do fail without notice.

If you run a VERTEX OAC or OAX Magneto,
You only need One Mag. That reliable when set up correct.

Picked up another SUN Distributor machine last weekend. 1963 vintage 400 Sun machine.
Like rebuilding magnetos and distributors too.

Now that I am back and there is no rush, I look forward to getting the chevy on the road again... in a quiet and relaxed way. :))))

Your Tangerine Tornado 1973 Chevy has to just haul some serious Tail.....kicks but...
400+ ci of Procharged Motivation.

Scare the daylights out of a C6 Corvette driver or a V12 Ferrari or Mclarion F1.

and I'm sure you'll find the flex head ratcheting wrenches useful in several applications, I know I use mine constantly, in fact I use them almost exclusively at times

I specifically had the bellhousing bolts in mind when I purchased these...

:D

Remember its a 1- wire alternator hookup I built for You Dorian.
Just connect the charging output wire to the positive battery post.
As soon as the alternator starts to spin after engine startup, its charging.
Trasnpo voltage regulator has fast transient response time.
Heavy loads like single or dual electric fans turned on, alternator rotating field current increased right now.
Less than 1 second delay.
Amperage you need for high current demands will there at your disposal.

Yeah flex head ratcheting wrench are great for some application, last year i went crazy and bought all size from 1/4 to 1"1/8 SAE and all metric size too on the flex head ratcheting, non-flex head ratcheting short AND long, and standard wrench short and long(yes i already had 2 set of standard wrench, but now i have a set to keep on the car and one for the truck), i have a problem with buying tools.
