well it LOOKS like its an improvement but the real question is how well does it actually work and do you actually see an improvement!
lights brighter?,
fans run better?
, more ignition spark?

My question is.....will one belt with a contact of ~170° be enough to
drive this larger alternator without any slippage???

Well, here's the thing, I need to upgrade the charging wire to a thicker gauge.

I idled the engine for a few minutes after installing the new alt the Brian built.

A VERY impressive job on it!

It was a near direct bolt in.

The voltage at idle was reading a bit high - 14.67 I am hoping that will come down a little bit.

It's tough to tel but... it seems that the headlights are brighter. The fans seem to work better and cool faster. Finally after shutting down after idling for 10 min, I checked the batt and I read 13.16 volts. Cranking was fast

This is looking promising, but I Think driving around will give us the full story.

Idle might have been a bit better...

Upgrade the charging output wire as soon as you can Dorian.
The CS 144 will perform best on the Tangerine Tornado with a 0-Zero or Double odd 00 Welding cable.
Best to crimp cable ends. Then Silver solder the lug- cable ends.
I used Silver Solder 2% to assemble your CS144 Alternator.
I only use the very best available whatever I do or build for people or myself.

Drive the Tornado.
You should notice a markable improvement in throttle response.
Likely notice a small top end kick in the pants you never had before.
MSD Ignition system will work better, deliver hotter spark to each spark plug.

On an EFI Vehicle, battery compensating tables in ECU deliver proper Fuel at all times too with a custom built alternator.
One of my tricks on my 87 Corvette Convertible.
Why it runs so good for a little peanut 350 TPI engine.
Stock pre CATS & Main CATALYTIC Converter still intact.
No one believes till I take them for a ride & show them 140 + in a hurry. Pulls like a Pontiac 455 with a Magnum 280 cam to me.
;)

Enjoy my friend. :)

Hmmmm, you know... I hadn't taken it for a drive yet. I wanted to let it sit and idle for a bit to see if it was stable. Then a short drive. Then a longer drive

Ok, another update.

The turn signals used to be sluggish at idle: no longer.

I installed a volt meter gauge with LEDs. I plan to keep that on the dash... just need to find a place to install it - running out of space

I took it for a little drive and it seems to work fine. I can't really tell much of a difference in riding quality - mostly because I had to take the supercharger off, so it is completely off tune.

Still overall there seems to be a noticeable improvement.

I just noticed the duck tape on the heater hose lol.
You have nice braided hose but no nice fitting, thats a no no :p

Reinstall your Procharger back on the TT (Tangerine Tornado).
Find an open 2 lane blacktop. Let it rip at WOT.
Hot spark a necessity on a supercharged engine.
;)

I wish. I do that on street tires I can start by grabbing my ankles and kissing my ass goodbye. I did that once... well... maybe, never again.

I can't put the super back on there till I pass DOT tech. I'd just have to pull it off and put it back on again.

That being said, I look forward to rewiring my under dash + charging wire this weekend.

;-)

You are my Favorite Belgium Hotrod Rebel Dorian.
Its a tough job but I know your up for the task anytime.

Make them grab their ankles and kiss the ground.

At 100 take a quick glance at oil pressure.
At least 60 psi, OK.
DROP THE HAMMER.
Just check the tachometer every 5 seconds.
Look 2 miles ahead and aim the TT.
YOU KNOW 150+ likewise.

;)

Hehehehe, yer on Brian!!!!!

Right I broke the Ford solenoid in the trunk trying to rewire the trigger. Grmbl. As usual, I have to wait a week as I order it from Summit.

I upgraded the charging wire from this to this. A relatively Painless job.

Annoying... now that the rewire of the charging is done (+ the kill switch) the solenoid HAD to break. Great! How annoying is that?!

I have broken those Remote starter solenoids too Dorian.
The bakelite plastic is of lower quality than made in the past.
They used a very high quality phelonic plastic in original Ford NOS STARTER SOLENOIDS.

Should have let known ahead of time.
I would have picked up the Double Odd 00 welding wire, crimped and soldered lug ends on, put a high quality NOS Ford starter solenoid or a 400 amp continuous electrical contact breaker- magnetic solenoid.
Packaged with your CS144 alternator.

Thanks Brian! 'preciate!

Had to order this from summit. Fast. Ordered on Monday. Got here today. Went for a short drive. So far so good. Idle seems improved.

Some car porn that came in the box. Not much... But it's the little things that make life easier.

Those are Nice Car Porn Tools Indeed Dorian ;)

The wire strippers save you time & aggravation when a large rewire job is order.
The Inferred gun is very handy to have. Point- aim take real temp readings.
Handy on individual header tubes temp check. Find a dead cylinder, see if a cylinder is running more lean than the other 8, check cooling system operation & locate potential problems.

I always wanted the wire stripper. For years now. I plan on completely and cleanly rewiring my under dash. I think this if going to be helpful.

I have a 25 and a 25 watt soldering iron that frustrate me to no end. Tomorrow I'll pick up a butane one or and 80 watt one.

As for the the IR gun - man it's cool. I tried it on myself and it correctly diagnosed a fever that I have been dragging around for the last couple of days...

I did check the exhaust headers and sure enough... number two is quite a bit cooler than the others. Anyway - first things first... rewiring under the dash.

Gotta have the right tools! That's what I tell myself anyway!

Let us know what you think about the wire strippers and give model #.
