I cleaned the 1957-'58 Pontiac 9.3 Axle Shafts off of the Slimy 58 year old Dried up Gear oil today with GUNK ORIGINAL ENGINE DEGREASER at my Local Car Wash & a New Snap On Solvent Brush I bought a while back.
They came out nice.
Looked like Shit on Fleabay prior.
I can spot GOLD WHEN ALL OTHERS CAN NOT SEE.

I soaked the Lower Axle shaft flanges in a 1/2 gallon of EvapoRust Remover earlier today for 2-1/2 Hours.
It Took a lot of crap rust off.
Picture shows it.
I went out to My local O'Reiley Auto Parts store to buy another Gallon of Evapo & they were sold out.
I went down the Road to Advanced Auto & They had EvapoRust Remover so I bought another Gallon there.

The Axle shaft Lower Flanges are sitting over night in EVAPO.
I set up a 60 Watt Light Bulb nearby with a reflector to heat the bucket of EVAPO up.
The container says to use at 65 F & above.
With an aluminum Foil Top on I hit 66 F a 1/2 hour later.

See How clean things are come morning & let the 1957-'58 Pontiac 9.3 Axle shafts soak till 6 pm Central time Monday Night.

I am very impressed how well EVAPO RUST Remover Performs.
I rate it 99 points out of 100.

Only a 15,000 Watt 40-gallon Ultra Sonic Cleaning Tank works better.
I no longer have that to use, was at my old job in the Winter of 2015.

I had a qick peak at the Bucket of Evapo Rust Remover this morning Grumpy. It turned Black.
Lift the axle shafts out tonite .

Lots of Rust Removed.
I am giving the '57-'58 Pontiac axle shafts another night- day soaking in Evapo Rust Remover.
Seems to be still working.
The Deep heavy rust in the center is coming off slowly.

Evapo has cleaned areas impossible by conventional means.

The factory ball Bearing ends have slightly discolored but still spin smooth and free.

I have another Pair of NOS GM NEW DEPARTURE 1957-64 Pontiac Olds 9.3 axle bearings put away.
Date coded boxes from 1964.
Fleabay find also from about 4 years ago.

Looks good! If you can keep the temp above 70 or so the Evaporust works good. Doesn't like the cold, even here in FL ahahaha.

Its been Record warm here Birdman.
Last Saturday it was 62F.
When I drove into Missouri to drop off Matts C3D44 Custom Diff I built it was 72F there.
2 Big Snowstorms only here.
Likely be a Scorcher Hot Summer.
When its 100F here You, Turbo Phil& Grumpy will be Cooking up in Florida .

Warm enough to do an engine swap outside now.
My 1963 Grand Prix.
Olds 425 Power.
Think in 1week.
Take me 1day to complete .

I remember doing engine swaps out on the snow/ice covered driveways up north well into my thirties. Put sheets of cardboard down to lay on as a barrier when you have to lay under & install trans bolts. No thanks! Glad to be where it's warm.

Doesn't get real hot at my house. Live within a mile or so of the Atlantic. Keeps it cooler here (also makes property values higher) but I don't remember it going over 93 here in 10 years. 10 miles inland is a whole different world. HOT!

I have a building lot on Singer Island, FL. But I don't think the neighbors would take kindly if I retired there and had a lot of cars there.

They won't mind! You'll fit right in! That's not far from Grumpy or me.
What does that mean?
Not really. The HOA makes you go through the garden committee to get permission to plant Some Daisies outside. Homeowners are not allowed to work on your car in the driveway or the street. I leased a house in a nearby development about 25 years ago, my neighbor turned me in for parking my pickup truck in my driveway overnight ($150 fine). I was going to build a house and retire there, too many rules, too expensive to stay and the people not very inviting.

Its no different than making Repairs at the Racetrack or in a Motel Parking lot Birdman.
I am a Diesel Mechanic again .
I can still do engine swaps outside.
Not always fun like you said.

I checked on '57-58 Pontiac axle shafts.
A little more cleaning progress.
That 58 year old rust in the center hub ends is stubborn .
I am not sure if EVAPO Is spent used up or not.
Letting them soak for another night.
Day off tomarrow.
Check then.
Tinker on the '63 G.P. Also.

They have a Party going on Digital Corvette Richard .
A few are screaming the H Word out Loud.
Hellcats.
I am the star of the party and not present.

Its on DC C3 Tech.
Not Bad Shark or Newsroom.
LIGHTING THE REAR By D.B. Matt.

I figured out who Banned me for saying Pontiac and Hellcats.
I had to think Hard....Ah Ha !

The ERust will keep working until it gets too diluted with distillates, as I said before - once in a while you need to filter the Erust and add a teaspoon/gal of Woolite. When really crusted you need to brass wire it.

I will have to make a trip to the Local Dollar General Store or Wally World and look for Woolite to buy. I don't have it here tonite .
