The Force Awakens...

You fixed the one cable, what is stopping you from fixing the others? What would be the cost for the replacement?

It seems that the Corvette's cables are made out of a bundle of fibers. The problem is that on the other indicators, I can see that some (not all) of the fibers are dead. I repaired an obvious break. Tracking down where all these fibers went - abrasion, pinch, cuts... seems like the proverbial needle-in-the-hay-stack. If I want the indicators to glow uniformly (and I am going through all this trouble to replace even the carpet), I might as well consider replacing all of it.

Well, I made my first (and second) purchase off of Alibaba. Ebay would not ship the item to Belgium. Fortunately, I found what I was looking for on Alibaba for nearly 1/4 of the price. Stay tuned !

Digging a bit deeper, I found some other issues with the fiber optics... painting over the pick up lenses is a no-no

The next step is to slot and machine the control arm cross shafts to provide more caster and clearance for the eventual spreader bar. Off to the machine shop they go...

this should be interesting , and BTW, nice photo quality.. something thats always appreciated

Thanks !!!

Rats. The machine shop thinks what I want is crystal clear and easy. But earliest they can do it is mid January. So much for a winter break project.

Just saying be resourcefull.
Many machine shops have contract work so that is priority 1st.
If you know a machinist he can maybe sneak the job for you early in the morning or at night 3rd shift.
Pay him cash.

Bob does it for me.

Thanks !!!

Is there a technical school with a machine shop nearby?

I am afraid it will be like this overall in Belgium. Technical schools will close also for the year this Friday and you cannot count on them doing anything now. It is something that I am still learning to get used to; including supermarkets closing at 2000. #frustrating

I gotta find something else to do in the meantime. One option is taking the front end apart any way in prep for the machined parts. Apparently you do not need a spring compressor to drop the arms. Tho on re-installation, I may use one. Pickle forks here are available as well as BFH. Tie rod separators... I am not sure. But I would definitely prefer using one of those. I am not a fan of smacking away at suspension components with BFHs to get them to loosen.

I can also clean and paint the engine bay. Maybe do both - probably easier to paint the frame with the suspension disassembled ?

Hmmmm

Not a bad idea... but that starts getting expensive. This isn't too urgent, I suppose.
You could try the US Military Guys based in Belgium you know.
The Main Garage should have a machine shop.
South Bend or a Logan Lathe & Bridgeport vertical mill with End Mills.
Need a decent Mill Vice, make sure they have. KURT Vice is Best.
Maybe even help you set it up & dial indicate it in.
Help you through it.
Slamming Trump may not make Buds with those US Marines unless they are like me & know you & like you.

always, if you deal with any machine shop, assume your dealing with a guy who really doesn,t give a crap,
and print out in fine detail , what you want done ,,EXACTLY....with specific dimensions and a diagram,
with ALL those dimensions printed boldly , try hard to get both a firm delivery date and a agreed upon total price
IN WRITING WITH HIS SIGNATURE, and several pictures of the parts and him holding the parts and a receipt
that the parts listed individually, to be worked on are in what ever condition they were in, TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES
this will be a minor P.I.T.A. but it will save you a whole lot of misunderstandings and arguments
never deal with any shop that says things like,
"come back next week I should get too it by then"
or "stuff like that generally costs about$300-$400, but I won,t know until I get into the project"
or won,t give a firm delivery date, price or sign a
receipt, or agree to a firm price... youll see why if you ignore this advice in spades

Mmmm - you got a point there, Grumpy. I had assumed that this would only cost me a few bucks. I better get my butt back over there !

Was that really necessary? For lounge, not here.

I already checked with the NATO Support Activity; they don't have the tooling. Good idea tho' !
